CO Evidence of Sex on Boned Out Meat

Another question or two on this topic.....

If I'm fortunate enough to kill a bull elk in Colorado next week, I'd prefer to debone the meat. I understand that I need to leave genitals attached to a hind quarter as evidence of sex. What do you guys use as evidence of sex - testicles (skinned out), scrotum, all the junk....? I'm thinking skinned out testicles would be best, as long as I can leave them attached to the ham. No hair and less leakage to taint the meat. ??

If I bone out the hind quarter, do I have to keep all of that meat from the hind quarter intact, or can I break it down into smaller chunks as long as I leave evidence of sex attached to one of them?

If I bone out all the meat, what do I attach the carcass tag to? Just any piece of meat?

While I'm quartering/deboning the carcass, do I have to have the tag attached to something right away, or am I OK as long as I have the tag notched and filled out immediately?

The last thing I want to do is get fined and have an elk confiscated over some technicality type of violation.

I just left the scrotum attached. Off with the penis and removed testicles. I used a Ziploc sandwich bag to put over scrotum and all was well. I wasn't as careful with my knife as I should have been, and the amount attached to hind quarter was less than I wanted. But it was obviously still attached.

I skin out the testicles & all and zip tie a ziplock Baggie over it to protect against leakage. I detach, sign and notch out the tag and carry it in my pocket while packing meat. Once everything gets to the truck I have always attached the tag to the antlers. I've never been stopped by the game warden though so I can't 100% verify that mine is the right way...

I just got me an elk in Colorado 1st season,,,what I did was attatch tag to horns when it was whole,,then when packing out left sex on 1 of the rear qtrs. and attatched tag to nut sack.also left that piece as largest piece until I got it home,,,am still processing meat now.as far as I know ,that is the true legal way thru the whole process.

Yeah, the regs say the tag has to be on the carcass, not the antlers. I guess zip tying the tag to the nuts would be the way to go.

My understanding is that if it's "shot through" it isn't edible therefore you don't have to pack it out. I personally would err on the side of caution here though.
I got checked at a large game check in colorado on I-70 near Idaho springs on tuesday, they were insistent on seeing all 4 legs , backs sraps and tenderloins, evidence of sex has to be naturally attached on boned out meat. Make sure tag signed and filled out properly. Rib meat not essential. Other than that should be just fine

I usually put the tag on the portion of meat that has the evidence of sex attached. Then if you get checked, you'd know which bag had the organs attached.

if you shoot it,,you owe it to that animal to take and use all you can of it,,,shot thru legs and all can be soaked and trimmed and salvaged,,,,i have very little loss on anything I get,,,at least make burger out of it.
