it will be interesting to see the impact on elk, deer, and antelope. I think the leftover game is going to be a lot more important this year. If you can't afford the tag when applying will you be able to afford it when you draw? My guess is no in most cases.

The days of picking up a 2nd or 3rd choice option has gotten much darker. I've been saving antelope points for 11 years now and finally in a position to pull a tag I want to hunt. I also have a chance at a 4th season buck tag that has taken me 5 years to have a chance at. Now, for these two species I'm 100% behind the 8-ball if/when I'm drawn. Even my 1-2 point mule deer hunt is now likely going to take considerably more points than 1-2 with the new system. Those of us who have been loyal customers got the shaft with this change in my opinion.

I'm lucky I drew a sheep tag this year. I may not ever see a moose or goat tag. I feel sorry for people like my hunting buddy who has been trying to draw a moose tag since 1986, which is before they started awarding points each year. I hope he draws his moose in the next couple of years.

Unfair for CO residents? The CDW is almost completely funded by non-residents.
Careful saying that.... you will get whipped and stoned...

I cant wait to see the pig in the tube effect when the Elk deer antelope results come out.....

I hope Eastmans has another article in their blog when it does so we know just how bad it is.

https://forum.eastmans.com/showthread.php/18390-Did-you-apply-because-you-dint-have-to-front-the-fee

If anything it will somewhat verify/deny my poll in the above post I created a while back.

It is going to be unfair to all, both NR and R, who have been playing the points game. My dad is a NR and he is able to hunt with me every 2 years on a 3rd season buck tag. I'm sure we won't be hunting together in Colorado as often now that these changes have been made.

how can the odds not go down with 12000 more people applying for res sheep? what is this "system" going to look like when people can't pay for a tag when they draw one? Situations change between April and June.

The Colorado Parks & Wildlife Commission is have a meeting in Cortez on Thursday, June 7 @ 11.15 to 5:00PM. I intend on being there and tell them what a mistake the new program is. Anybody else that is planning on attending, PM me and we can go together.

Another point is that with no res/non res quota for 2nd choice or leftover tags - they will be drawn out at basically the % of applicants...

Or fair and very accurate to say - residents that usually hunt on a 2nd choice - got the royal screw as chances to draw either a 2nd choice or get a leftover will go to 0 - 20% or close to that.. As the non res dont draw they will put in for 2nd choice tags that are all drawn equal % basis.

It might take a year or 2 but yea there will not be too many if any 2nd choice/leftover tagsafter the class of 18' and the folks used to getting these 2nds tags will not - then they will end up overcrowding the otc units for elk even more..

If you do email the cpw I would also point out how unfair the colorado system is for its resident hunters. CPW needs to look at a straight 80%-20% split in every area of all deer/elk licenses as well as 2nds and leftovers...
Agree the whole equal % thing is total bull. Needs to have the same standard percentage split.

Anyone have a link to all the statewide summer CPW meetings so I can also plan a visit?

How about listing what you consider the most important talking points. I can take them and supplement what I want to say to the. I'll list mine in a couple of hours.

I'd like for them to address the people that are riding around in trucks with their muzzles of their rifles out the windows with the bolt open, or how about those that are riding around in the back of pickups with their bows until they see a deer and then they roll out and shoot it as the truck goes down the road.

On the parks side I like to see what they plan on doing for seniors and park passes along with a park pass that can be transferred from one vehicle to another as long as the owner is the same. I'd also like to talk to them about the counties and Forest Service closing off roads to ATV's unless they are registered for the highway and there is no way here in Colorado to register a ATV for the highway.

By the time that I got done I would not be a very popular person with the CP&W folks but could be a hero to common day folks.

Will there be a way for us to submit online comments?

I just joined the forum just now.... I live in Colorado and I sent Bob the DOW Director a couple of emails about the new payment method and he didn't even email me back he handed me off to John who called me and Bob wanted John to ask me about if I knew about the mobility program. I sent Bob a second email saying that i'm disappointed because he handed me off to a guy to ask me about something that doesn't have anything to do with the subject at hand. I told Bob that Wyoming sent me a survey and maybe he needs to talk to them and maybe learn something from them...... so I guess if I don't draw for the rest of my life than I know why lmao

Do you really think that the director of the CP&W looks at his or her own emails? That is what they pay secretaries for.

On drawing a tag or not that will depend on what you are going to apply for. I don't see too much change in the deer tags and most of the elk hunts are over the counter. Now for the better units for both deer and elk not to mention sheep, goats, antelope, and moose it will be a long line.

Some people joke about it and other are serious, you never know.

I know of a number of people that quit deer hunting back when Colorado went to the draw system and just concentrate on over the counter elk tags. They also refuse to put in for cow elk tags through the draw, if they want a cow elk tag they will try to purchase one over the counter if there are any left.

yeah, I put in for one choice for deer, elk and antelope all for doe and cow because I'm more after the meat. I'ts hard for me just to put in for any area because of my disability so that limits my choices now with this new payment method it might even be harder. I also put in for Wyoming antelope again this year, last year I drew 2 antelope doe tags so hopefully I get lucky again they even increased the tags this year. But I'm not sure if Colorado is going to come through hopefully....
