Matt, there are a lot of huge deer killed in that unit south of 50. The unit goes from canon city to Pueblo to the Sangres to Salida and everything on between. All different types of habitat from pinion flats to above treeline, huge ranches, lots of public but the biggest bucks I have ever seen are on the ranches in westcliffe.

Great archery buck for your son congrats.
From the terrain it looks to be 58 - interesting to see that the southern units in the 49 block again are holding bigger bucks that the northern end as I had a friend take a great NT this year opener of archery in what looks to be the same unit of the block. Or it seems that while 49 no doubt has better elk (good luck cm you should have a great hunt) 58/581 holds bigger deer w more numbers.
That is a huge unit block or units for deer with a lot of options for sure and congrats again on a great typical.
