I'm going to build up another point for deer and use my 8 points in Wyoming for a deer hunt there this year. Next year I'll be back for a Colorado deer hunt with my 2 points.

Alabama: it's coming down to timing with other hunts, and knowing what is in the area. There are two bulls that are going to blow up next year (2019), and I want to try and go after them when they are at their prime. I know I'm crazy but crazy ppl make crazy choices, but it's worked for me in the past :) I think it would be pretty cool to chase after a 375 bull with years of history with, whether successful or not. Taking the guessing out of burning points sure helps, and spending countless days in the area I plan to burn em is the difference between going home empty handed, having to regain all those lost years thinking "Why didn't I put in a bit of effort?", and having the hunt you predicted you would.
What if they get shot this year?

I plan on burning 2 points for a muzzy elk tag. Have 7 for deer and will continue building.

If they've made it this long.... chances are very high they will continue to make it. I've yet to seen another hunter in the area since I began watching it, its one of those "crazy people only" accesses.

The only points that I have in Colorado this year are my 5 antelope ones. I'll have to do some looking and see if they might be worth burning or wait another year.

I burned all my deer and elk points a few years ago and really don't intend on banking them anymore. I will put in for my unit 44 ml hunt and see if I am one of the lucky ones that can draw with 0 points.

Cool. Well if you're able to go check out the area frequently and have good knowledge of it, then hopefully it works out for you.

Check out the units that have hybrid draws, I think 5 will get you in. I did draw an antelope hybrid tag 4 or 5 years ago.

Sitting on 18 colorado deer pts and not sure what I want to do or when. Burned my 15 Colorado elk pts in 2015 in unit 76 and had a great hunt and killed a nice 6X6.

I wonder what the percentage is that is trying to burn points so they can basically just hunt OTC or 1/2 point hunts vs those that are trying to build points?

Joe Schmo:

I brought this up in another thread. It is not worth building points IMO for the top units. They are not any better than another other units, just less people and pressure. Study the areas and you will find where people don't go, and animals grow big. CO is one huge state with big animals where you find them ;)

I have 7 NR elk points and think I will burn them this year for an archery tag. Still researching between 66 and 5 and maybe another unit. Not sure which way to lean right now.

Headed out this week to check on the bulls. I would post pictures but I don’t trust the internet. Let’s just say these next several months until season are going to be very very slow!
