As long as it says "Matthews" you'll be fine. At least thats what the proshop guy in Meadville PA told me when I was a younger lad. lol

So I have shot Matthews bows for 20 years.

I have owned 3 of them and 2 of the three have broken within the first three weeks. True story. But thats my luck with anything I buy.

LX - Limb Cracked
Heli-M - String de-railed and trashed cam
Triax - No issues so far and I have shot it thousands of times.

I have tested the bow-techs as well. they shoot nice and people really like them.

Go shoot em all. Go to a bow shop where you can shoot three or 4 brands at once. You wont know the difference. They all shoot awesome, are getting lighter and smaller. More than ever now it comes down to brand loyalty, how it looks and how it feels in your hand.

Tons of good bows out there. Probably the most easy to tune right out of the box is Mathews. They are pretty forgiving, especially the new VXR.

Some new ones in addition to Mathews to consider are the Hoyt RX-4 Ultra...unreal shooting carbon bow; the new Prime Black (I'm a fan of the Rize from a few years ago, too); the Elite KURE (has a unique tuning feature, allowing you to mess with the cam-lean without touching the cams/cables...this is new tech to the industry).

I shot all of these at ATA, plus the Xpedition MX-16 and PSE's new bows (both the EVO NTN and the Carbon Air Stealth Mach 1). All good shooters.

For 2020 I think my favorite in-hand were the Mathews VXR and the Hoyt RX-4 Ultra, but that is personal preference. The others were good, too.

Dont be afraid of a used bow. I got a used hoyt hyperforce and it shoots great. Used to be someone's backup bow that didn't get much use.

As everyone has said, go to the bow shop and shoot. Have an open mind, the last time I purchased a bow I knew what I wanted went to the shop the guy told me to shoot a few and I walked out with a bow that I had never heard of and I have been more than happy with my purchase ever since.

Highly recommend starting (and hopefully staying) with a recurve/longbow. You'll become hypnotized by arrow flight and join a pretty cool fraternity. There is nothing better than a bowstring on your actual fingers.
