Bison, Big Bull vs. Tasty Cow?

Which would you rather hunt/get?

A big bull trophy, and wall mount?

or a tasty cow and small head for the wall?

Many of these free range hunts are once in a lifetime, so it's an either or, not both.

I bet on some of these ranch hunts one could hunt a bull and trade out for some cow meat.

Side note, why don't they eliminate brucellosis from the WY heard?

Big bull for me too, if im gonna only get to do it once and im that lucky to draw, i want a bull not a cow. If its just meat and a cow i would just go to a ranch hunt. My ex-wife drew a bull buffalo tag here in Wyoming about 3 years ago. Was an awesome hunt, the bulls are easier to hunt here than the cows. After that experience hunting by Jackson its bulls only for me..

My freezer is full of a big bull bison right now. I can understand taking a trophy bull once...but keep the crock pot handy, it's tough.
Moose is way better!

I definitely need a moose too, in the next decade hopefully...

I don't know if I could do a farm raised bull elk, where would the fun be in that.

Now a farm raised bison depending on the hunt might be fun. I have been on hunts for these animals in the wild and they are a wary adversary when you are after them in the wild. But there are so few places that you can actually hunt them in the wild and even fewer where you don't need a guide on a Reservation or a ranch I would have to go with the bison.

Other than that a nice cow elk would be fine and a calf would be even finer.

Put one trophy bull head on the wall and then apply for cow for meat. I shot one not old water buffalo couple years ago, meat should be similar to wild bison, my family didnt like the meat. I think the buffalo meat was worse than moose, elk, deer, bear, and antelope. I dont really care if somebody says that wild meat smells or tastes bad, it is delicious if it is cooked right.

I'd put North American bison meat right below moose meat if not even with it as far as flavor goes.

All the American Bison I've eaten has been excellent. Water buffalo is a different critter. But like anything else, some are tougher than others. Have enjoyed both bulls and cows on the table, in meal sized portions...

I would shoot whatever was cheapest. Because im a tight wad. I would probably just have the hide tanned draped over the back of a couch.

Draw odds tell me that as a NR, I better apply for a cow tag if I want to actually draw.

I hear the Wyoming bison hunts can turn into a bit of a rodeo. I think I'm going to put in for cow tags for there and Custer until I draw one.

Moyle Mink and Tannery does bison hides for a flat fee less than $500 and they are great.
Cow tags are much easier to draw3 and harder to hunt due to their movements on the NEF.

I am looking at a cow hunt. Not a big trophy hunter, so the meat and the budget are more important. It would have to be free range though

The meat from both would be excellent if cared for properly and aged. Even if you get a tougher one- smoked bison burgers are amazing imo. If tags were accessible I'm guessing most here would choose the bull. Most apply for the cow tags because the bull tags are so hard to get.
