True, it's changed. REI "grandfathers" you in on older purchases. New stuff is 1 year, no questions which is a whole lot better than 1 year and a hassle.

Good morning my name is Joe latona, just got back from hunting in New Mexico, I always order my boots, my clothing, from cabelas, and have never had a problem with either. I bought 2 pair of new boots from cabelas the Mendel and Wolverine, very very good boots, did not have a problem one. Comfortable, and very supportive. cabelas to me is the way to go. The only problem I've ever had with cabelas, is some of their socks, but they always replace them for me. Have a great Thanksgiving and holiday season, hope this was helpful helpful.

375- I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I just recently bought a pair of Danner Pronghorns and love them. They are probably the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. I am guessing larger boot manufacturers have been burned a lot by people buying boots for a hunt and then returning the boots after the hunt. I always buy boots at a store so I can try them on. Cabelas has a small rocky hill where you can climb up and down in boots to see how they will feel. Makes a difference to me.
This has been my experience. My Danner Pronghorns are great boots. Had them for 3 years and still going strong.

Ditto that! I also have a pair of two year old Pronghorns (400 gram Thinsulate style) that have seen nonstop action out in the harsh terrain of Wyoming and a few other western states for two lengthy seasons, as well as many days of use year around here in Michigan. The left one is starting to come apart on the inside and outside of the toe area where the stitching has been rubbed badly from the conditions I have put them through. IMHO that is not the fault of the manufacturer and I plan to either find a repair shop that can do a little repair stitching or try to make the repairs myself to get more service out of them. The way I have worn them would probably be equal to at least 3 times the use that most would put a pair of boots through, so I'm very happy with them. I believe the OP is asking way too much from a company if he wore the boots outdoors and then thinks the company will just absorb the loss because he got the wrong size and now is unhappy. I would never buy shoes/boots online like I do most other items because they vary so much as to fit even though the size is supposed to be uniform. Most of my stuff is purchased online from Cabelas due to their fantastic customer service, but any boot I buy from them is at one of their stores when I can get there to try them on and walk around the store in them for awhile before making the decision to buy.

I must agree with Hilltop, Colorado Cowboy and Topgun ... In my experience Danner Boots are great. I have two pair that I've worn off and on for 30 years now. They fit perfectly from the first day and still do. I've had them both resoled and they're still going strong. They're very comfortable with plenty of ankle support. Great boots.

Yeah, I feel your pain. I have a box in the garage full of boots. Most are fine for basic trail hiking, but they tear up my feet on the steeps. One of those pairs of boots cost $400!! It's frustrating to not have boots fit, but tough to tell the manufacture it's their fault and should take them back after being used. It's pretty common for them to say you should only wear them in the house. More often then not the used boots can't be re-sold. They can't take a total loss because your feet don't fit them.

I would consider buying from retailers that have a 100% satisfaction guarantee with no questions asked (Cabelas, REI, LLBean). Plus most of these guys have a "used rack" or "bargain cave" etc where they can resell them to recoup the cost. So it's not a total loss and they are more willing to work with you.
That is spot on in my opinion.....

What follows is my observation after putting a lot of miles in during Sep/Oct 2014.

I have gone through several pairs of Pronghorns now.
I thought I had my last pair broke in well (purchased Nov 13 with plenty of time for break-in in for hunting fall 2014).
I purchased them at the factory store in Portland after doing the rock incline thing.

During the fall hunts, I ended up reverting to some old reliable boots because this pair of pronghorns kept hurting my ankles after 3 or 4 miles. I am downgrading them to short trips. I have always loved Danners I just wonder if maybe they have slipped like so many other great brands.

I will not have to worry about it as my 25th anniversary present is a pair of Kenetrek Mountain extremes. Purchased IN PERSON from some really knowledgeable folks at a small store in Medford Oregon.

Late edit: I may just get my older Pronghorns resoled if possible because I tried them out on a hike last weekend and they still feel great!

I have also had a issue with Danner, I had a pair of Rain Forests that right boot came apart from the inside and sent them back hoping for a repair. Danner wanted $150.00 to fix the boot that failed due to poor construction. Told them to put them in the garbage and bought Kenetrek.

Way back when all Danner boots were made in the USA they were a great boot. Now that most if not all of there hunting boots are made in China they have turned into junk.

Like most people I had heard nothing but great things about Danner boots so I decided to buy a pair. I bought a pair of pronghorns from Bass pro shops and they were without a doubt the most uncomfortable boots I have ever put on my feet. I wore them for several days hoping they woul get better. No dice. Bass pro was great and took them back without a question.

I am guessing like all boots, they are comfortable for some and not for others. People have different feet and different expectations. I personally like them but I don't mind the negative feedback by others... may keep my cost down next time I buy a pair.

I'm not a big fan of Danners either, they are really uncomfortable and get wet really easily. I can't remember which model of boots I have of theirs but no matter how many coats of waterproof you put on them, your feet are soaked by the end of the day.

Thats very true. Boots change one year to another, just like we do.
You really have to try them and hope after 10-15 miles they feel as good or better.

I have to agree with Hilltop. I have two pair of Danners and they fit great. They definitely work for me.
