I've dreamed about having a custom rifle one day and never thought it would happen, but it did!
I've always wanted a Winchester with the controlled round feed in a .280 Remington. I did not want the Featherweight though because I wanted it to have a 24" barrel. I found a donor rifle/action and started last spring. I just picked it up from my gunsmith on January 27th which would have been my father's birthday and he's the one that pushed me to do something just for myself for a change.
Here's the stats.
Gunsmith: Bob Peterson Missoula MT
Winchester Model 70 Classic Sporter: pillar & glass bedded.
Shilen stainless air gauged 24" standard model 70 contour barrel - 1 in 9 twist - .280 Nosler AI
Trigger adjusted to 2.5 pounds.
The action was trued, the bolt trued up, and the lugs lapped.
The metal was done in John Norrell Arms moly resin
Weight: Just a touch over 7.5 pounds as it sits.
