Question for you fisherman. I have a Fenwick 7 1/2' flyrod that is around 60 years old that I bought new. I use it a lot with poppers on my pond for bass, bluegill & crappie. It is looking pretty old, most of the finish is gone and I want to refinish it. I was thinking about spraying it with clear automotive finish. Good....Bad ......or suggestions.
There was a company out of Ohio I used to deal with, Jann's Netcraft, when I built fishing rods. I think they still exist? They sold all kinds of rod building components, imcluding varnishes and coatings to finish the rods, after putting winding wraps on the guides. Give them a call.

(They do still exist:

We had a pond here where you could catch your limit of crappie in 10-15 minutes, but none of them were larger than your hand. There were so many of them that all of them were stunted from lack of feed.

Then the CP&W planted some northern pike into it. They were also stunted and never got over 18", then came the tiger muskies. Now about the only thing that you catch in that pond are stocked rainbows and a few catfish.

We shot some really big gar this weekend. I mean some whoppers. They are just spooling up for the spawn just cruising right now and the big females are in the shallows. Water is SUPER high and muddy. We did take this one picture. My wife stuck one with an arrow that was so big the arrow only went in about an inch and when it bolted the arrow pulled right out.

Hell yeah, thats a nice haul of crappies. You are wearing my favorite set of boat shoes. Love the crocs. Kids make fun of me all the time for wearing them but nothing beats them fishing in.

I like them but I am NOT a fan of those straps.....I wish I had ordered them with the original straps and not those Velcro things...

I might take the straps off completely and try them next weekend without them.

Looking at those catfish makes me want some for dinner.

It is too bad I have to drive 100+ miles to get to a good catfish water.
