You will hear/read people saying it's not worth getting into Nevada because of the number of people and points ahead of you by now. If you are afflicted with the obsessive-compulsive need to draw only the best tags, it's probably not worth it, but if you have realistic expectations, there is value there. Find a mid-tier hunt or two to target where you have a decent chance of drawing over 6-10 years, then keep building points for the rest.Welp.... After years of waffling, and not applying in NV, I decided to jump into the fray, put my name in the hat for all 5 available species. Hope to draw a few of them over the course of the next 25 years....
Nailed it! Especially for deer, shoot for the moon until you have a few points and then, shoot for the moon on your first two choices. Leave the last choices for mid tier hunts and you have given yourself a solid chance. You will hear/read people saying it's not worth getting into Nevada because of the number of people and points ahead of you by now. Thats the plan.. I figured I could get some mileage out of the deer tags. Applying mainly for elk, hoping to draw a tag or two while I can still hunt. I guess I'd take a sheep tag, if they wanted to give me one...Nailed it! Especially for deer, shoot for the moon until you have a few points and then, shoot for the moon on your first two choices. With Nevada's random weighted bonus point you never know. I looked at every unit in the state for every species and there is a bell curve on most of them in the way tags are awarded. The one that was an exception to that rule was the sheep hunts, because of the sheer number of top tier bonus point holders applying they simply had more applications than the bottom end.Thats the plan.. I am firm believer that a 170 buck can be taken in just about any unit. Just how hard people want to hunt. There are big bucks in just about every unit in Nv. Even in the high draw odd units.
Agreed 100%I am firm believer that a 170 buck can be taken in just about any unit. Just how hard people want to hunt.
This is very true. I don't think there are any truly bad units no matter how good the drawing odds are.I am firm believer that a 170 buck can be taken in just about any unit. Just how hard people want to hunt.
At least now the waiting period is only 7 years unlike the 10 years I had to wait before I could start applying again. That first year we get to try for bull again is always exciting
