what? that's not the bitterroot valley your in , where is that?
It is the b-root. Low elevation south facing is starting to clear up. It's kind of a crazy year... my yard is still snow covered but some of the hills aren't. This week should clear a lot of snow out. Every day is in the 40's.

that's crazy, I miss living there. I like looking for sheds on snow, fresh drops before a new snow are so much easier to glass up.

Found one today. Small 4pt. I'll get pix up tomorrow. Saw one buck with no horns and one with both. Need a couple more weeks before all have shed. I found it, but let my new pup think she did. She is pretty proud of herself. We have been working around the house with an old shed, so she knows what to do. Kind of nice to get her on one out in the field.

View attachment 15894View attachment 15895The only thin she did wrong, once she found it, was that she took it to my wife. I figure that's just a gal thing we can work on later...BB
That is great. Sounds perfect to me, dog finds shed, wife comes along to pack it, good doggie. I think you get the wife a larger pack and supervise the entire operation. Of course there is a risk of unintended consequences with my idea.

It definitely helped my average which I was way behind my goal... currently at 38 miles 29 hours 21 sheds. I gave the grand daddy shed to the rancher, which was tough, but glad I did... i learned he passed on that buck this year during archery. Good for him, so it was a small token for his good deed. Hope he connects next year. That is/will be a big buck for our area.

Too early for Muleys here. I have been out and saw between 15 and 20 muleys with their racks yet the last few days. Pulled cameras Friday and most of the whitetails still have theirs in recent pics. One small buck had shed. Sometimes the Muleys have them till April in our area. It is time to start hunting for the whitetail sheds here though.

You started me thinking.....I figure if I pick up a couple of those sister wives I could run two or three more dogs and have a real large scale operation....consequences?

Tried today. The area we hung has 12-14" of snow. Really tough to get around.

Warm week coming, and it was a great day for a walk in the woods.

Struck out today. We did find an area where a few elk have wintered, a place where I did not know they were. When I got home the neighbor told me he saw about 15 deer in the field and 3 were bucks. One had only one horn, the rest still had both. In the morning I think I may just take a little walk around the home grounds.

Found 8 bucks tonight. 7 still have all antlers. 1 has dropped. Glassed a shed up in the middle of them but won't get it unless they move off for a few hours or they all drop.
