Here is a quick question for you mule deer hunters..

Would you expect to kill a high country archery buck w only 2 days to hunt? Feel free to comment what percentage or in 2 days there is a 70% chance or a 20% chance - of putting a respectable buck in the pack.

So high country, archery gear, and 2 days.. Yes or no what’s your answer?

Nothings impossible. If you knew the deer was there and you could find him out on opening morning, then it is very possible. If you had to look in several drainages to find deer, the 2 days goes by pretty fast.

usually only takes me one.;)
my answer would vary by different units but in general
I would HOPE to but I wouldn't EXPECT to.
I would prefer more time but it is not impossible. if two days is all you have get out there and make the best of them.

I never did when I was hunting up and above timberline.

There were times that it too me those 2 days just to find them, but then I was after 170+ bucks. My last archery buck was above timberline on the last day of the season just before dark after hunting hard for a whole week

I would not consider myself a HC mule deer hunter at this point in my life but I would say in a good area a good hunter has about a 3%-7% chance in 2 days. Thats if they had scouted and knew where the deer were at and they didn't have super high expectations.
If you had done no scouting and were going in blind your odds would drop to 1% to 5%.

I would think that with every passing day you would exponentially increase your odds in success.

Probably depends on how much time you’ve devoted to scouting and locating patterning a buck. 2days could be enough if you’ve spent plenty of time scouting in a high country area where there aren’t not many other hunters to disturb the buck.
2 days probably isn’t enough if you haven’t scouted ... unless you’re just plain lucky.
