To go along with my earlier comment of "whichever one you can shoot effectively"... For elk I like my Dad's old Pre-64 Model 70 Winchester in 30-06 with 165gr Noslers. It still shoots great and I've been shooting it so long and I'm so familiar with it I shoot it pretty well.

Staying in really good shape is my number one. I've been really busy at work for over a year and my conditioning is slipping. Gotta get that going again. A really big mule deer would probably be next.

Kid, I can't say whether or not "this virus is really the threat we are being sold that it is" but I just had a friend die from it so it's nothing to take so trivially. ...and yes, he could have died from just about anything, but he didn't, he died from the virus. As for the OPs question...

^^ Ok, point taken. Whichever one you can shoot effectively so your bullet placement will be spot on … within reason. I'm assuming we all have enough common sense to rule out .22's and .223s.
