If there were kids in our house, all my guns would be locked up all the time. When my son was growing up, we used to go shooting a lot and he knew about guns. I bought him a shotgun when he was 8, but it was locked up until time to go hunting or shooting.

I checked the statistics for the unit I hunted and actually this year there were less 4th season tags that last year. Colorado's stats go back to 2015. I did check every year and things stayed pretty statics until 2019 when tags issued almost doubled. So you could be correct about the buck...

Looks to me that it was a faulty part. The butt stock is attached to the action with a long bolt or screwed in sleeve. It is usually seviced thru the end of the stock. Did you take off the recoil pad? There probably is a piece of the broken part there.
