    Dolores County Colorado Hunting Accident

I’ve said before that a guy should be able to wear a deer costume in the woods and feel safe. No excuse for shooting another hunter except in the case of a bullet pass through

    2021 Elk Success Thread

Congrats. I’ve spent a lot of time deer hunting that area, and have never seen an elk there. Seen some rubs, and a big bull in the back of a locals truck on opening day, but never on the hoof. Sure is beautiful country though

    New World Record Nontypical Elk

Well, elk and mule deer are 2 different animals. I just checked the only record book I own, the b&c 26th big game awards for 2004-2006. For Alberta, there are 3 typical elk out of 178 entries. Ranked 4,129, and 154. Non typical consists of 1 entry, ranked dead last of 51 total. I stand by...

    New World Record Nontypical Elk

Simply raising a question. I wasn’t aware that Alberta had the genetics or weather conditions to grow an animal of that magnitude. Not hating on anyone

    New World Record Nontypical Elk

When I first saw this, my gut was telling me that it may be a covertly raised ranch bull. There’s a fair number of elk farms in Alberta, probably in some really out-of-the-way places. Wouldn’t be hard to grow one in secret

Well it finally happened......I destroyed a gun.

    That’s a little scary, glad you’re okay

    Caribou Antlers

When I shot my caribou in Quebec, I did a European mount with one. Just sawed one antler off between the burr and the skull, and left the other antler attached to the skull. When I got home, I drilled and screwed the loose antler back on. If I remember correctly, I went in through the back of...

    Where is everyone?

I’ve been out of the western hunting game since I had a bad fall from a roof 6 years ago. I was starting to get the itch again, but my dad, who was my best bow hunting buddy, now has early onset dementia. My sons are 17 and 14, and we will be planning some hunts in the coming years. They will...

    New Bow Discussion

If you find a bow you like, consider buying a used one on eBay. I’ve bought 5 nice used bows this way and have had a good experience every time. I shot a Hoyt at an archery shop, then bought it used on eBay. Then went back to the same shop to buy the accessories I needed. Before you guys...

    Canadian Border Opening! You Going?

We’re going to check on our cabin at the end of August. It will be almost two years since being there, and I don’t want to go through another winter wondering if it’s still standing

Not a big game animal but....

My son trapped a smaller beaver this spring, so we quartered it up and I cooked it. Slow braised it for 2-3 hours, and then finished on a hot charcoal grill to crisp up the fat. I deleted the picture I took, but it was some excellent eating. Really tender and mild taste

    Shed hunters on here?

I found a handful of little whitetail sheds, and believe it or not, that’s better than most find around here

    Thoughts on Suppressors for Hunting?

I think every high powered rifle should have one. How many guys use hearing protection while hunting? Not very many

    Opening morning

My 14 year old was bound and determined to be like his big brother and take a bird with his bow. But after 2 weeks of hunting morning and night, and several missed opportunities, it was time to finish up and get to fishing. Called in 3 toms, the two closest coming in slightly behind the blind...

    Smoke Phase Turkey

We had a smoke phase hen out where we turkey hunt for a couple years, but she wasn’t quite that light. That was a few years ago, and we haven’t seen any since

    Opening morning

My 17 year old has shot a lot of nice toms, and even got a jake with his bow 2 years ago. This morning he got his first mature tom with his bow. Absolutely perfect shot at 25 yards.
