Is there any place still open in Jackson. WY? I normally do my own, but this year will be on a 12 day backpack hunt with a partner, and meat management may become an issue. It appears that Hogg Island meats is no longer in business. There is Dana Cold Storage in Thayne, WY, but is 60 miles in...

Back on track with my pack training. 3.4 mile fast hike with pack; today's wt. is 32# which will be increased over the next couple weeks. This routine served me well on my scouting trip in WY in late July, so my goal is to stay healthy and avoid injury.

Cabin Build - Timeline with lots of pics.

I don't know why anyone is sweating and swearing about the cost of things right now. All you have to do is wait until after the election in November, after which everything will be free.

Colorado Women Going Topless om Mtn Tops

That is likely because of Alaska's mosquito population. Much like NE Minnesota where I live.

    Dry?

I spent several days at Green River Lakes and we almost got washed out while we were leaving, and the T-storms followed us all the way north to Idaho. The vegetation on my scouting trip in the Wyoming Range was 2 or 3 times higher than 4 trips in the past 10 years.

    The July/August Fat Off

I just got back from a month long trip west. I did a overnight scouting trip in the Wyoming Range and it was in the top toughest things I've done in the last few years. Wasn't gone long enough to lose much weight, then staying with my wife's relatives after that kind of kiboshed any further...

    Hammer Bullets

Sorry, didn't mean to scare anyone with that first photo. This was the result from a 480 yard shot on a 6x6 bull elk using a .338 WM. 185 gr, Barnes TSX, muzzle velocity 3034 fps (handloads). It completely shattered both shoulders and I found the intact bullet under the far side hide. DRT

    Kestrel Ballistics Giveaway

Great timing, as I lost my Kestrel somewhere high up in the Indian Peaks Wilderness of Colorado.

This will be my last post here for a while. My wife and I are headed out early for Wyoming, then on to WA for some family time. It will be hard to be too strict on a diet while staying at someone else's house, but will likely be able to get in a couple hours of dog walking time each day. But...

    Who else is...

Yup, that's in one shot, and all clean too. It was 20 pullups (not the so-called chin-ups that's more like a curl) to max out that portion of the Marine Corps physical fitness test. It took me a long time to get to that 20, but I have mostly been able to maintain that for the last 45 years...

Starting to up the moves; matched my last 25 year high with 23 pullups & 45 pushups before rucking 3.4 mile with a 32# pack. Completed the hike in 1 hour. Fast walking is the only way I can prep for the altitude and the mountains. Leaving in 3 days for the Wyoming camping/fishing/scouting trip.

    Truck camper build

I have a post under "Other", and titled "Truck Topper Build". I see that you already have the topper, so the rest is easy. On my topper for the Dodge that I made several years ago, I have slept numerous nights in back, but those were all on solo trips where I have plenty of room to just lay...

    Who else is...

Took a rest day yesterday, partially because I had a bunch of things to do, but also because I was so sore and stiff that I couldn't walk normally. At first I thought it must be from simply upping the weight on my pack for my daily "ruck", but then I realized that it was from something that I...

Upped my pack weight for my morning 3 1/2 mile "ruck" to 32#. Kept busy all day doing outside projects and can sure feel it today.

What would be your dream hunt?

Rich, this is a totally affordable and doable hunt. You can beat the crowds by saving up some points for a limited hunt. Just do your research and find an area with sufficient antelope numbers, reasonable access, and limited tags. I only have experience with one unit, and only had one buck...

    How much is too much?

The amount that I am willing to spend has changed through the years. I don't really need any more gear, though I wish that I had bought the high end optics years ago. I quibble on it now mainly because I'm not sure how much longer I will be able to use them. Heck, the guided elk hunt that I...

    Wyoming Unit 52-2 Antelope

Those sage grouse have always taunted me knowing that the season wasn't open or I didn't have a tag. On my last trip I took a couple first timers on a doe antelope hunt. This time the season was open, we had small game tags (for rabbits), but didn't bring shotguns. I had to almost tackle my...

What would be your dream hunt?

My dream critter has always been a monster mule deer. I am fortunate to have been on number of mule deer hunts, and have another one planned for this year. Rather than dream, hope, and save for one great hunt, I try to make every hunt the best experience possible, knowing that it could be my...

There are many different approaches to weight training, and much of them depend on what your goals are. Back in your football days it was often to build size and brute strength. For you today I think that would definitely be the wrong approach. Measure your gains on your increased muscle...

Go to it Marcus!! None of us will ever get to Bonecollector's body tone, but there are a few things that you should keep in mind. 1. Focus on yourself, and do not get wrapped up in lifting big weights or hitting it too hard. 2. You don't need to go out and buy a bunch of new equipment. Pick...
