Looking for Information on applying for Non-resident hunts in various western states.

I hope that this last year was a fluke on the tags selling out quicker than usual. There were more people out in the woods and around the lakes, I think that they just wanted to get away from all this Covid BS so they bought tags even if they didn't go hunting. I believe that I fell victim to...

Warmest socks or boots for cold weather sits

I'd be leery of ones with smaller batteries, they wouldn't have the staying power unless the bunny was beating the drum next to them 🐰

What Do You Consider Long Range?

I have only just started packing a camera with me in the last dozen or so years. Before that they were too expensive to throw into a backpack and haul all over the mountain. But even then for most of my hunts I never used a backpack. I would throw a couple of sandwiches and apples into my...

Looking for Information on applying for Non-resident hunts in various western states.

Forget about Utah unless you like hunting spikes or want a tough hunt for any bull in their any bull units. You would have a long wait for any of their Limited Entry units unless you get lucky. Head to Idaho, Montana, or Colorado and buy a tag over the counter and go hunt elk.

Warmest socks or boots for cold weather sits

I have always thought that if I had to sit in those kind of conditions that I would get some of those heavly insulated booties that go over your regular boots. If you have never seen them they look like a parka for your feet and they are just for sitting and perhaps standing up to go to the...

    Already a shed?

A unicorn. I agree way too early for shedding. I have seen single antlered deer but there is usually something on the bald looking side

    Best boots for elk hunting

The ones that you can wear for 12 hours hiking up and down some steep rocky country. There is no set answer besides the above. If you are hunting in snow you want different boots than if you are hunting a dry hot fall. Do your feet get cold easily? If so you might want more insulation than...

    new Savage rifles

A few years ago I went through a number of rifle manufacturers and looked at the weight difference between their long and short action rifles. Most weighed the same with a few short action coming in only a once or two lighter than their long action twin

What Do You Consider Long Range?

I shot a arrow into the air, it came to earth I know not where............ How many of you back when you were a kid did the above? Or saw how far you could shoot a arrow and still come close to your target? A lot of people believe that the stalk is long gone anymore. They figure that they...

    First Timer

What weapon? Right now Wyoming and perhaps Montana and Idaho would be your cheapest route. Colorado, Utah, Arizona require you to purchase a license before you put in for the draws, in Utah you can still get two years out of that one license if you work it right. Archery tags are easier...

    AZ CC hit

Yea, but then I would be having a hard time to draw a Colorado tag as a non resident. That's the trouble with wherever you live at and want to hunt out of state. I think that it is because of this Covid thing. There have been more people out recreating outdoors this past summer and fall...

    WV - CO Connection

I have the second edition of the book, it would be interesting to compare it with the third one. A friend has the first and we always looked at both to see the old and new heads.

    Wyoming 1990

Cool, it is too bad that none of my hunting partners really care about hunting out of state. A couple started getting interested in it way too late but we are working on it. It is always great to come across photos of old friends and family out having fun.

    Proposition 114

A state Senator is putting out a bill to reintroduce wolves to the front range of Colorado to Boulder and Jefferson Counties. He says that if those folks want wolves then they should get some in their backyards...

You also have to look at the other bucks that don't get officially measured. I know of two that go around 210" that are just hanging on the inside of a barn. The owners could care less of how big that they are it is just that they like the memories of them.

Utah and Colorado are a lot alike when it comes down to when big bucks are shot. The later in the year that you hunt the better chances you have of finding a huge one. Most of the huge bucks that are hanging in stores, service stations, and tourists traps in Utah were shot in late November...
