Removing Elk Tenderloins the Gutless Method

It's very easy. I cut one rib at the costal cartilage. Remove or pull on the rib thus expanding the intercostal space. Reach in, grab the heart, cut the great vessels (aortic arch, etc.), and pull the heart right out. Only takes a few minutes.

Pack weight? Who weighs theirs and how much?

I used to weigh my pack. I realized I need what I need and stopped weighing it. HaHa

    Rethinking Deer Gun

If you reload for the 30-06, consider a lighter bullet for deer (110, 130 or 150 grain), and drop the velocity some. As long as the accuracy isn't compromised you're good to go. Know the range with the chosen bullet and impact velocity limitations. I've had great success with Barnes TTSX...

    Question For Chukar Hunters

I have not heard of that but I will look into it. Great idea. Thanks for sharing!

    Question For Chukar Hunters

How do you keep your dog's feet in good condition during the season? My GSPs front pads get chewed up after each hunt, not terribly, but enough so that I'll give her a 2 week break before we head out again. She is young and runs hard. She hasn't learned, yet, to pace herself. I think that's...

Measuring Jam Length or Rifle Seating Depth?

Hornaday Lock-N-Load O.A.L gauge. Then measure to Ogive using Hornady Lock-N-Load Bullet Comparator. Once you know your baseline you're good to go.

    Swarovski warranty

Nailed it. I have Swaro binoculars. Flip of the coin, if Swaro will cover a damaged item, if I ever need to send them in for repair.

    Best Western Caliber?

Big fan of the 300 WM especially if you reload. Lite loads are a little faster than the 30-06 or go full tilt loads. Cover you for anything in NA and all Western scenarios. The recoil for me, isn't an issue, but I know many complain about 300 WM recoil. I have a 30-06 and a 300 WM. 7 mm RM...

Mossy Oak Song (pass it on) Tracy Byrd

This is an older song but for the life of me I can't find a download anywhere online. I can watch the video/song on Youtube. I'm taking my boy hunting and I'm putting together a Hunting Playlist for the drive. Maybe Mossy Oak didn't release the rights to the song. I checked all downloadable...

I've used InReach for years. Never had one failed message (sent or received).

    Hunt alone ? (partner preferred)

InReach, have one, use it every hunt. Doesn't mean one is relying on electronics as others have eluded. I mark my truck and never touch it thereafter. It's for emergencies, injury or lost, fortunately never needed to use it. As someone else commented, definitely makes the wife feels better...

    Gaia GPS vs. Onx

Any thoughts. I use onX Hunt and I am happy with it. Any advantage of Gaia GPS over onX when in the field? Thanks

Son's first WTD hunt (Idaho GMU 10A, 16)

I never ask for assistance with hunt locations; however, this is my son's first big game hunt and I would like to put him in a good general location. He has a late October B-Day so I am limited to WTD and for this reason I need some help. I have never hunted WTD, only Mule deer, so this is new...

    Hunting Dog Name

I'm getting a female GSP for bird hunting (grouse, chukar, pheasant). We have a few names picked out (Boots, Aspen, Scout, Jaeger, Stella, Kona, Brook). We like the name Scout but seems close to the command sit. Boots just sound good vocally especially when in the field. I read some owners...

    WTS Vortex Viper HD 10x42

Vortex Viper HD 10x42. Purchased in summer 2017. My daughter used them once for elk hunting this past season. Unfortunately, she doesn't seem overly interested in going again. Instead of hanging on to them I've decided to let them go. I don't need a 2nd pair. These binoculars are in perfect...

    MT Points

I have no points but want to start accumulating. Is it as easy as apply for license and pay for 1 point. Do I have to apply for a specific hunt? Get license fees back if not drawn (my understanding). Thanks
