First Fall Snow in SW Colorado

Seems like the biggest problem we have here is it is to damn warm. In the last 2 weeks we have had lots of rain & snow above 9000', but it stays mostly in the mid 30's to 40 at night, just too warm for the snow to stick. More moisture forecast for next week. La Plata Mountains this am.

    Official Post Padding Thread

I had the same dilemma a few years back. I racked my brain, talked to my Mom & Sisters and still came up empty. My Dad loved to hunt & fish so I chartered a boat & guide and took him fishing. My Dad would rather catch trout than anything, so we went to a lake in California and caught a ton of...

    Wolves in Colorado

There was a recent article in our local paper (Cortez Journal, September 11, 2017, "Are Wolves coming back to Colorado?") about a recent presentation by Michael Soule', "a renowned conservation biologist" to the San Juan Citizen's Alliance. He stated that he believes it is inevitable and it...

    SW Colorado Bucks

On our home from town this evening and saw 5 bucks right next to the road about 1/2 mile from our place. Pictures could have been better, but one was a great buck with a drop tine. Funny thing is that they were fighting and one had a big gash on his rt shoulder.

    Just Sealed The Deal..........

All the hunting I want to do for the next 10 years! Just went out and bought my wife a new car. Drove home in a new 2015 Ford Explorer Sport. Has the 3.5 twin turbo ecoboost, man it hauls ass! My wife is thrilled with it. Our old 2003 Explorer was due to have a new owner. Been a good car, but...

    Got the old Smokepole singin'

Just got back from the range doing the last preseason shooting with my T/C Pro Hunter. Got my new supply of .501 Thor Bullets and they do shoot great! Got a 3 shot 1 3/4" group at 100 yds that prints 1" high. Unfortunately I forgot my camera. I finally got the new SeeAll sight dialed in and I...

    Toxic Mine Spill-Durango, Co

For those who havn't heard, a toxic brew of contaminated mine water overflowed into the Animas River near Silverton. It has gone clear to New Mexico so far. It was caused by EPA workers at an old mine. The river is closed to all water contact, irrigation needs & drinking water until further...

    Scouting 2015

Pictures taken at 9 to 10k feet. Everything is so green & lush, looks like spring. I rode my quad, roads really rough, didn't want to take my new truck as I really doesn't have a lot of clearance.

    Scouting 2015

Just got back. Saw a lot of country, most of it where I was last week. Left home a lot earlier and saw lots of animals. Lots of deer, some elk, 3 bears and a few grouse. Found a couple of really good looking areas with lots of tracks leading from a huge grove of Quakkies going to water and feed...
