    Friendly Hunting Competition???

Jim...you are totally correct. If you want to compete against other people.....there are plenty of shooting sports out there. I compete in several of them.

It was about 15 years ago and I really don't remember the name of the place.

    Mule Deer

I would suggest you take a tour of any place you look at for processing. I butcher my own because there no to be sure you are getting you own meat back when it is ground. One year we went to a couple of processors in Riverton and I almost lost my lunch it was so bad. Just sayin...............

    This is why...

I generally agree with you...But there are exceptions for me. I am 78 (be 79 in Oct) and don't have all that many years left to hunt. I have given information about some of my spots (Wyoming, Colorado & California) to people here on the forum that I trust. Why would I do that? They all take a...

    WHAT A MESS!

My neighbor was up in the San Juan NF about 20 miles from here and said it was wall to wall people camping, never seen it so packed. Also all our rv parks here in town are full. They all have signs saying "No Vacancy"

    WHAT A MESS!

I was camping at Gunnison for a week (last week) and I couldn't believe how crowded it was . All the NF campgrounds were full and so were the rv parks. Went to Crested Butte and it was difficult to find a place to park. Tons of rv's on the road too.

    Huge Bull!

Jim, you are correct. There was a poster with a lot of information on it and it said they were meat hunting. I didn't take a picture of it.

    Huge Bull!

Last week we spent all week in Gunnison camping. Spent a day in Crested Butte and visited their museum. This mount was there. I was shot near Crested Butte in 1899 and was certified as a new world record (at that time) scoring 442 3/8. It is massive. Pretty cool...........

    WHAT A MESS!

College football season is an absolute mess! I am a former college football player and every fall is my time of year. Football and hunting....who could ask for more. looks like half of it is gone. PAC 12 (and others too) has cancelled it's fall football because of covid. It is going to...

    MOA at different elevations

Among hunters this has only become a topic for discussion in the last 20 years or so. It really only comes into play at extreme ranges, my guess is over 500 yards. Why did I pick this number? Because I never shoot beyond that range with my hunting rifles. I have never experienced any change that...

    6.5 To kill an elk?

If you'll read my first post, I am not advocating anyone give up what they now shoot and go to a .30 caliber. I happen to shoot .30 calibers for elk and they do exactly what I want them to do. I didn't say you should give up your .270 and shoot a .30....whatever works for you, works for you. I...

    6.5 To kill an elk?

I definately qualify as an "older guy" as I'm 78. I shoot a .300 Wby with a muzzle brake and I doesn't rattle my dentures (I don't have any!). I also shoot a 30-06 w/o a break. As I stated earlier, nothing less than .30 cal for elk (and larger game) for me. My Wby kicks less than my 25-06.

    New Mexico requiring quarantine

Just got back from a week in Gunnison and lots of restrictions as Jim said. Lots of big lighted signs on all the highways saying "Face masks are mandatory". We were at Crested Butte and almost everyone was wearing a mask. Pretty crowded too. All in all, I was quite surprised with how crowded...
