    Son in laws desert ram

Great ram. It's amazing that the desert species has the largest horn diameters living in a harsh dry environment. Why does it look like the ram's left side appear to be broomed on the top photo, but unbroomed on the bottom photo?

You are smokin it Marcus. Those shuffle starts can be frustrating; just try running in an event with 10,000 runners and you will wish that you had brought a lawn chair.

    Deer neck collar?

Did you turn the collar over to the DNR/F&G? I got a car killed moose a few years ago that had a collar, and received info from the DNR about where & when it was collared and at what age. Mortality factors, including hunting are a big part of the information that is an important part of what...

    Nikon Scope Issues

I bought a modified .338 Winchester Super Grade from a guy who had it built, but because of Parkinson's never hunted with it. It had a Nikon scope and it was never consistent grouping. Good for a bit, then it wandered. I tried several different scopes with similar results before having it...

Arctic Air ( Mike and Shiela Spisak ) & Outdoor International - Buyer Beware!

BC, I was wondering why you were so quiet the last couple months. I've been fortunate on my guided hunts and never was screwed over like that. I guided fly-in canoe trips to a wilderness area in Manitoba and a few years later the pilot and his passengers died in a plane crash in the Otter...

    Not Sitting At Home

And with a Bing-a-Da-Badaba BOOM! That was all she wrote. Let the grillin begin. Good job Jim. How was the packout?

Investments - what has served you well?

I looked at starting a college fund for my grandkids, but backed off when I found that the pool of $ in their name affected the $ available to them in grants. I help them out when they need it to help cover expenses outside of college.

    Not Sitting At Home

I love having those gray jays around, but for some reason they have been almost completely replaced in our area (NE Minnesota) by those annoying blue jays.

    Not Sitting At Home

That's a real beauty Jim. Those close encounters are a blessing whether you have a tag or not. That guy was just a pup when I last hunted in your backyard.

Coming To Colorado for the Hunts

I'm not bitch-in that's hunting. When I started my back country trips I seldom saw anyone else around, but that's not the case anymore. I'm part of the problem too and am sure that at some point that I have affected someone elses hunt.

Coming To Colorado for the Hunts

We did not shoot anything. We had previously hunted the OTC 2nd rifle season and were very lucky to come back with one cow elk. CO hunters told us that the elk are pushed out of the area during the (limited) 1st rifle season, and were now mostly on private. Our long term plan was to hunt the...

    Who else is...

Well, I just returned form 8 days in the Colorado mountains. My fitness prep was held back by family issues, but aparently I had done enough to survive the experience without too much suffering. Two young 54 year olds and I (69) hiked a couple miles back and camped at 8,300'. Cold and snow...

    Best Hunting Gear

I have the same "bra" on all my rifles. It works, and is cheap. Plus, if you forgot your ammo, then you still have a rubber gun. All of my KUIU and Sitka gear are top notch....pricey tho they may be. One of my newest acquisitions is an AGC bino pack. Used it for a week in the mountains, and...

Coming To Colorado for the Hunts

I just returned from 8 days in Routt County. There was 6" on the ground, but it warmed to 40+ during the day, and hiking in the slick gumbo was a real bitch. Just as it was starting to dry out, it snowed another 3", AND THE PROCESS STARTED ALL OVER. But, 13 years ago when I last hunted this...

    Who else is...

I upped the pack weight to 50 lbs. (including the rifle/scabbard, and rucked it 3.4 miles. I'll do a repeat today and tomorrow before heading west on Tuesday. It looks like I've done about all I can short of finding a 10,000' mountain in Minnesota..

    Who else is...

I added the scabbard and rifle to the pack, which upped the weight by 7#. #44 right now, and hoofed the 2.2 mile course without breaking wind or much of a sweat. My pack won't get much heavier until I have to pack a critter out. Less than a week before heading west. I will try to add some...

    Mandatory CWD testing

I contacted CO P&W and spoke to someone at the Steamboat Springs office. I was told that just submitting the lymph nodes was acceptable. To access the video on the removal process, type in CWD in the search box, then the top line is "Everything Videos" Click on Videos. Pretty...

How many rounds of ammo to take?

My upcoming elk hunt partners were reluctant to do much shooting because they have been unable to replace their ammo. You can find 30-06 ammo now, as long as you are willing to pay the price. One of the guys would likely tuck more dollars in a G-string during the road trip if we let him make...

    Who else is...

My pack training is going well. I haven't upped the weight or distance much yet, but have substantially reduced the time it takes to cover the distance. Legs, lungs, and heart appear to still be working within design perimeters. There's way too much to do before leaving for Colorado next week.
