    Muzzy Powder Accuracy

Sounds like you are ready. I know that with my eyesight that I have to limit myself to 150 yards when using open sights. That plus using a ML 150 yards is a good range. Plus the Thors will have no problem punching through a elk at that range.

    Muzzy Powder Accuracy

The ramrod adds strength to the stock and barrel and effects the harmonics of the shot. So either take all your shots with it in or out but not both

    Alaska Bound

The problem with moose is that they don't know when they are dead. A friend hit one 4 times with a 375HH before he toppled over. All the shots were into the boiler room from 150 yards

    Alaska Bound

Thousands of hunters have gone through Alaska and bad weather with good old wooden stocked and blued barrels and have done just fine. Just remember that if it gets wet to take care of it before a problem shows up.

    BALLISTIC CHART

I can work up a chart for you later this week. Here is the information I will need: Is the bullet a TSX (no blue tip) or a TTSX with a blue tip? The published velocity How high is the scope. Measure from the center of the barrel to the center of the scope What distance is the rifle...

    Angled or straight??

It is all in your personal preference. I am 6'4" so I prefer a angle one and hate trying to look through a straight one at a animal when someone has spotted it

    BALLISTIC CHART

To start with you need to know the velocity of the round out of your rifle along with what your sighted in distance is. The factory published velocity is usually 200feet per second faster or so. You can work up your own by just shooting at increased ranges. Start with where you are sighted in...

    GETTIN OLD.......

When I was over in Africa all of my shots were taken off of a Bog Pod. By chance I had purchased one before I went over to practice off of. It has three legs instead of 2 and it is very sturdy no matter what the terrain was. Most of the shots were from a sitting position but I also had a...

Altitude Sickness- who has gotten it?

I had a great time but I was after a griz and we only saw one on the next two last day of the hunt and it was 578 yards away. I did manage a black bear on the second day there so it wasn't a total bust. We were 23 miles back in on horseback from White Tail lake where the outfitter had some cabins

Altitude Sickness- who has gotten it?

Joseph: When I was in BC on my bear hunt most of the peaks were around 9,000 feet and we were seeing tons of goats 2,000 feet lower with nothing up higher on the peaks. It was to the point that I had a hard time understanding just what I was seeing. We were hunting in the Percell Wilderness...

Altitude Sickness- who has gotten it?

Never have had a problem with it. But then I lived and worked between 6500 and 10,000 feet every day. But I saw a lot of flatlanders that had it when they came up to 8500+

    GETTIN OLD.......

I think that one of the best compliments someone has said about me was while I was in South Africa. After a long day of hunting my PH who was in his early 40's told me that he hopes that he is in as good of shape as I am, just before I turned 62 on the safari

    GETTIN OLD.......

As for hunting shortly after a joint replacement, I have a friend who drew a cow elk tag a few years ago. And yep, he needed to have one of his hips replaced about a week before the hunt. Instead of crying the blues and turning in his tag another friend took him out and set him up in a...

    GETTIN OLD.......

I was sitting in a bar once talking to a gentleman that was around 20 years older than I was at the time. He made of of the best statements that I have ever heard concerning his health. He said that if he knew that he was going to live to be this old he would of taken better care of his body...

    altitude pills

I'd just leave the alcohol alone until you get off of the mountain. It is one of the main things that they tell you to stay away from or use in extreme moderation if you have problems with altitude. There will be times to celebrate once off of the hill.
