    7mm-08 with 175 gr bullet

My .300 Wby is a #1 Ruger that I just love. Never taken more than one shot any anything I've shot with it.

    7mm-08 with 175 gr bullet

I think every bullet (& caliber) you mentioned will deal with an elk, the important thing is shot placement. I shot my first elk with my handloads using a 150 gr bullet in my 30-06 nearly 60 years ago. I use a .300 Wby (again my handloads) with a 180 gr bullet. I did shoot a cow elk with my...

Experiences with LASR Target Shooting Training System?

I don't use any electronic practice system for actual hunting. I have used them for competitive shooting, especially in moving from target to target and sighting. I question whether the absence of actual recoil and the functioning of your firearm during a reload can be simulated without actual...

    Start of a new day

I think we had some new geese migrate in a couple of days ago. They have been resting on the ice of my 2 acre pong the last couple of days. They are real weary when I walk towards the the pond. Do a bunch of squawking and leave.

    Start of a new day

Yes. they rest on the pond during the day. We had about 100 honkers all week. We have about 5000 honkers that are non migratory, stay here year round. The goose crap gets a couple of inches deep in the spring when they have goslings and molted.

Small Calibers for Big Game Hunting

I read other forums and some of the stuff going on is just crazy (IMO). Lots of big game hunters are saying they are going to .22/.24 caliber for big game. They tout low recoil and new bullet design as the reason. I just don't get it. If recoil bothers them, what's wrong with a muzzle break, I...

    North American Pronghorn Foundation

The first I have heard of them is your post. I googled their organization and it is new , around 1 year old. I looked over their web site and I was not overly impressed. We'll see how they get their message out.

    Bipods for Rifles

I have used a Primos for years. it doubles as a walking stick too. I started out with a single leg and I have gone to 2 legs. It is more stable when shooting than the single leg. As I have gotten older I really depend on the walking stick portion a lot.

    Mule Deer Rut

The last couple of days the bigger bucks have disappeared. There are still some small forkies around, but they are ignoring the does. Looks like the rut is over here.

    Mule Deer Rut

Well the rut has started. I was on my way to our shooting club monthly meeting last evening and I saw at least 50 deer in my old orchard. The big difference was there was at least 10 bucks with the does. Sparing with each other and sniffing around looking for a doe in season. One pretty decent 4x4.
