    6.8 Western

There’s nothing wrong with having a long range hunting rifle, just be careful with bullet selection! Some bullets are so fragil that if you happen upon an animal at “close range”.......you may have to do a “reverse stalk”! 😂 memtb

    Ruger No 1 .300 Weatherby

Beautiful rifle and darn nice group! I’ve always thought that the Ruger #1 was the most attractive factory firearm manufactured, with the Winchester Model 70 Featherweight a fairly close second! Though, I personally have never owned one....which is one of my many mistakes in life...

    6.8 Western

Pretty much a 270 Win. magnum....with a fancy name! If you have a 270 Win. and want a bit more......run a reamer in it making it a 270 AI! Lots of 270 Win. brass available.....or make it from 30-06, 25-06, maybe even 280 Rem. Then worring about a brass shortage is a non-issue! Just my thoughts...

    2021 Elk Success Thread

We’ve eaten our tags for the last 5 or 6 seaons .....because I wouldn’t let her shoot a dink! Then nearing season’s end when anything was fair game.....the elk seemed to have disappeared! We have cow tags this year....no holding out for the big one!🤪 memtb

How many rounds of ammo to take?

How many rounds of ammo to take?

Thanks.....it simply works! I’ve seen many animals harvested by high velocity rounds, 270’s (including a few by my wife before she moved up to a little larger caliber), 264 Mags, 300 Mags, ect and nearly always there was much more bloodshot meat than with the .375 H&H. When I went to my...

How many rounds of ammo to take?

I’ll prety much guarantee that I will have far less tissue damage and boloodshot meat on an Antelope taken with my .375 than that of an equally placed shot at the same distance by someone shooting a 270 Win with 130 grain bullets! We’ve (wife and I) have taken many deer and Antelope using our...

How many rounds of ammo to take?

The 30-06 is a great “all around” cartridge for all of the lower 48, and much of the world......provided the bullets are suited for the game beening hunted! However, for the “one gun hunter” with aspirations to hunt larger, potentially dangerous game and in some places that have minimum...

    For the Hunting Handloader

My preferred sealant, dark blue fingernail polish, may not be as difficult to remove as the stuff of military yesteryear! I always clean my primer pockets, and the primers appear to come out cleanly.....so, it hasn’t been an issue thusfar! memtb

    For the Hunting Handloader

Well folks, I’ve discussed this topic with other people over the years......and y’all are in the majority! I may be incorrect, but, I thought that “once upon a time” some factory ammo and perhaps military ammo were sealed. Of course, maybe I only dreamed it, and it was reality! 😁 memtb

    For the Hunting Handloader

A question for those that use their handloads for hunting......like maybe someone doesn’t! 🤪 It’s probably overkill or paranoia or perhaps both! I grew-up in an region of the country where 85% humidity is quite low and they average 60 to 70 inches rain per year. I always worried about the...

How many rounds of ammo to take?

To further derail the original post, however, in the attempt to save ammunition....I do advocate shooting sticks! So....it’s a little bit ammunition related! 😁 I don’t shoot as well as I should from field positions without an aid. The sticks are great for hooting above brush that would be...

How many rounds of ammo to take?

My (our) shooting sticks always accompany us when hunting.....practice/zero verification should be taken from the expected rest...to be certain of bullet impact and the group size expectations when hunting! memtb

How many rounds of ammo to take?

This summer has been unbelievable at our place. The only time we’re not working.....is when recovering from work! 🤬 I finally got around to doing a zero check on our hunting rifles and my handgun yesterday! It sure felt good to send a few rounds downrange! 15 rounds through my AI, 8 through...

How many rounds of ammo to take?

Yes! My only hunting rifle/cartridge since 1990! I’m kinda old school, I don’t follow the latest fashion trends....I stick with what has worked quite well for me! 😉 memtb
