    Sidearm preference

If anyone chooses a shotgun......be very conscious that all slugs arenot created equal. The old standard sugs of yesteryear will likely fail miserably! They are very soft lead, starting out with a huge frontal area, expanding very rapidly upon impact.....penetration will be almost non-existent...

    Sidearm preference

The revolver....hands down! Too many folks think that they are going to get many shots on the bear....making the semi-auto the better choice. In reality, more than one or two shots in a genuine attack is pretty rare. Bear attacks are often very quick, the attacked party not knowing it was...

FL Bushing Die then Expander Mandrel to Set Neck Tension

Slugz, If I properly understand your question. I seldom trim, but will certainly deburr/chamfer post trim. Primer pocket also gets cleaned at this point....as I’m already on the machine. Though, needed or not.....primer pockets are cleaned every time! I also use dry lube (graphite powder...

    Long range build

I would first define “Long Range”! You’ve already dropped elk from the menu, which allowed you to drop down a bit in caliber. However, if you are not recoil sensitive, you can still have a 1000 yard rifle of substantial cartridge capabilities, while keeping the package light enough to be...

    Hunting.......

what is this thing, of which you speak? Two (only 2) unsuccessful days of deer hunting. Our usual 2 to 3 weeks of elk hunting (living in our camper) appears to be severly in jeopardy! There have been better times! Sorry, just needed to rant! Good Luck to all......and to...

    Hammer Bullets?

Of course you have to develope a “path of plausible deniability” as you are an administrator 🤪, but there are a couple of websites that can give some pretty extensive information. The first.......The Hammer website. Great info.....somewhat difficult to navigate! The other.......Long...

    Today at the Dentist’s Office....

I thought it was pretty neat! A young woman, that likes to hunt, wants to upgrade her rifle.....doesn’t get any better than that! 😁 My wife warned her of the recoil, and told her she could shoot off of the shooting sticks rather than the bench! We’ll probably have her wear the PAST Recoil...

    Today at the Dentist’s Office....

I returned to the lobby after finishing my appointment, and witnessed my wife involved in a hunting rifle conversation with the young lady receptionist. It seems the young lady is wanting to step up a bit from her .270 Win. to something larger for her hunting rifle. My wife was extolling the...

    Ear Protection When Hunting

While I’m certain that hearing aides would be quite beneficial for me in several areas.....my hearing is not bad enough, (yet) to justify the cost of good hearing aides! The AXIS cost us $259.00 for 2 sets! Being the cheapskate that I am, pushed me in this direction! memtb

    Ear Protection When Hunting

JimP, When I built my 9.0 lb. .375 AI, I had it built with a brake. I developed my loads using the brake and “EAR PROTECTION” from the bench......never realizing how loud it was. When back packing bear baits in, I decided to take a long range shot at a rock with out plugs/muffs.....”just for...

    Ear Protection When Hunting

Expecially when chamber pressures are aroung 60K psi and the barrel is vented (braked)! I’ve shot magnum revolvers since 1970......nothing compares to this. It’s in a “league of it’s own”! memtb

    Ear Protection When Hunting

I probably will not use hearing protection when using the rifle while hunting......but, certainly will with that handgun! memtb

    Ear Protection When Hunting

I considered muffs, but wanted something for hunting as well as range work.....only wanted to buy one set! I believe the muffs probably have greater protection, but I can’t use them when shooting a rifle....so, I elected to go with the buds. Heck......I may start using them to watch (hear 😁)...

    Ear Protection When Hunting

I didn’t wear ear protection when I was in my early shooting career, late 60’s/early ‘70’s, nor in a noisy industrial. Hearing protection wasn’t stress than as now! During the early years of shooting, noisy industry, and racing motorcycles damaged my hearing......you can’t regain it, and like...

    6.8 Western

Jim, I can make a somewhat educated guess on your bullet penetration results. The higher impact velocity (close range shot) caused the bullet to upset to it’s maximum diameter and perhaps (probably) lost more weight than did the longer distance shot.....hence the appearance of “less”...
