    Duck hunting

Growing up in Wyoming I used to shoot quite a few mallards during deer season off the mountain beaver ponds. October usually beings quite a few ducks to the state. Good luck.

    Archery Elk Opportunity Hunt Suggestion...?

Purely discussing table fare - The best elk I have ever eaten was a 300 class bull taken at the end of the rut. The worst elk I have ever eaten was my wife's cow she shot mid October. It was the lead cow in a herd of 60+ animals. She was like chewing on shoe leather but her burger was still...

    Class

I would call the deer a giant 150 class buck. This deer would score the same at 10" less in width if he had little 5" crab claw forks up front. My guess is that would drastically change everyone's perception of him. Very cool buck though that would be very difficult to pass. Score isn't...

Decline in moose preference point purchases?

Wasn't a drop off... 1269 nonresidents taking one point into the moose draw for 2020 compared to 906 with 2 points. I don't have the numbers from last year but it would seem plenty of people decided the higher fees weren't an issue. I'm in no man's land in the middle of the pool... trying to...

    Seeking Wild Rabbit Recipes

I keep it pretty simple with our bunnies most of the time- I roll skinned, clean, rabbit pieces in a mixture of crushed corn flakes and seasonings and then fry most of the time. We also make BBQ rabbit, rabbit and noodles, and baked rabbit occasionally. My 2 favorite seasoning blends for...

    Bipod Help

I have used several different brands. The biggest factor to me is making sure the height of the bipod is correct for you while in a prone position. I'm 6'2" and have owned a couple that just felt too tall for prone. I like a 12-24" model vs the 13.5-27. I have been just as accurate with...

    Class

Fist gut reaction is "180 class" buck. After studying the pictures, I would agree with ridgetop above and say final score likely around 170".

    Class

To me when "class" is associated with the number it means a person is giving a ballpark estimation for what they think the deer will score. Like mentioned above, it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I have had them go both ways but know that ground shrinkage is much more common than...

    Shotshell Pellet Count Tables

No F shot? lol. I had a buddy that swore by that when we were kids until we opened one up out of curiosity to count pellets. In a 12 gauge I think he had about 30 compared to my 75 or so BB. He did occasionally drop a goose at a long distance though.

Something more to ponder during application periods

You may be right about some but I'm guessing the change to most area will be very minimal. The biggest potential change will be to the general tag odds imo. And I bet that doesn't change much because Wyoming is The destination for a lot of hunters. I just don't know that many people, other...

Something more to ponder during application periods

Drawing elk and moose in the same year would be a lot... I'm guessing most people with have to choose one or the other.

Something more to ponder during application periods

It's annoying but I do think it will keep a few more people out of the draw as they don't want to take a chance at drawing multiple states in the same year. There are ways around that but it will be a little work... draw premium unit in another state, switch wyo app to area 100.

Anyone ever done a "safari-style" hunt in Wyoming?

CC, I believe that only works for same species but I could be wrong. I was applying for a buck mule deer tag and a doe antelope tag.

What do you do with your horns/antlers?

Montana, I love the upside down bull with the hide. Very cool idea!

Anyone ever done a "safari-style" hunt in Wyoming?

I tried to do doe antelope and deer last year. I thought I was a lock to get the deer tag but didn't draw so ended up with a doe antelope tag only. I still went, filled the doe tag and then had a family camping trip. Made the most of it but it definitely wasn't how I had it planned.

Anyone ever done a "safari-style" hunt in Wyoming?

Public land mixed species hunts can be done but it is difficult to find solid areas holding all three that have seasons open together and have tags that are easily obtained. I have combined antelope with deer on a few occasions - fun hunts. For elk, I usually focus 100% of my time on them. If...

What do you do with your horns/antlers?

I have some of our smaller ones from the early years hanging in the garage in a similar way. I have said for years I should make something out of them but I haven't had the right idea yet. Hoping this thread provides some good ideas!

    2020 Family WY Antelope Hunt

Something that may be worth exploring., instead of paying the extra price for special, you may be able to pay a cheaper trespass fee on a ranch in an easy to draw area. I am aware of some landowners that have charged a lower fee for kids and some that allowed kids in free with a paying adult...

Suburban bow deer cull, what I've learned

I actually had the same thought. I was surprised that a tree stand wasn't required to create downward shot angles. The OP has obviously proven to be a very accurate and responsible archer but I'm guessing all those participating aren't up to his abilities.

How Young Is Too Young (To Hunt)

Every kid is definitely different. In a perfect world, where parents were involved and capable, it would be great to leave it to them to decide. Unfortunately that isn't the case. I think all of us have likely encountered adults who weren't capable of mentoring even the most ready child. I...
