SURVIVAL Situations - What would you like to learn from Fieldcraft Survival

Might sound weird but I have always thought about a broken leg/ankle. What the heck does a solo guy do 2+ miles in when that happens? I am really careful but it has almost happened a couple of time to me over the last 30 years.

    I got the biggest kick.

I know that spot in the heading home scene very well... Cool video. Thanks for posting.

Looking for Information on applying for Non-resident hunts in various western states.

Eastman's TagHub service was built specifically for people like you trying to learn the process in multiple western states. I'll let Scott chime in with more details.

Took this picture standing in front of my house - thought it was fitting for the day.

Fun to see pictures from the past. That top one is a pretty tall buck antelope!

What Do You Consider Long Range?

While processing my bull this past weekend I found a bullet from a previous hunting season. It made me think of this thread. The bullet was in shoulder meat and had a hard cyst formed around it. Not sure how old but it was obviously in there a long time. The meat around the cyst looked great...

    New hunters

I love to take new people. I haven't for a few years since I'm teaching my youngest the ropes right now. Prior to that, my approach has been to work with one person at a time. One gun, one hunter, 100% focus. Safety is always priority one and I feel it is much easier to be completely safe...

    Proposition 114

Bob, I feel for you guys out there. I would consider relocating after the election topics that were just approved in Oregon.

    Proposition 114

Just wait until the bunny huggers watch a wolf kill one of their "pet" elk in RNP... It will be too late then.

    Wyoming mule deer

Nice job! I have never taken a big 3. Weird but I would actually like one some day.

    Persistence Paid Off

Thanks - You should get out there next year for does if your not ready to apply for the buck. I don't know a single hunter that is glad they waited longer for their first trip out west.

    The Memes Thread!

I think it should be taken a step further - show a legal ID and a tax return in order to cast a vote. The people who really contribute to this country should be the one's deciding who is in office imo. The election wouldn't even be close...

    Persistence Paid Off

2020 was one of the toughest elk seasons I have ever experienced. I spent 23 days in the field between scouting, archery, and rifle. This included 5 different trips to Wyoming. 2 of the trips were scouting/family camping and the last 3 were actually hunting. My plan this season was to...

Any tips or tricks to replacing stuck blades in an outdoor edge knife?

The blades can get stuck after you allow blood to dry in there. Soak in water and they come out fairly easily. I love the outdoor edge knives and carry them exclusively now.

    Antelope numbers and tags issued?

I just returned from southern Wyoming. I wasn't hunting antelope but I paid attention to them as I have a pile of points. I found a lot of antelope but they were very concentrated in big herds. On one river bottom ranch I saw a herd of 100+ animals all together on the hay meadows. I think...

    2020 Mule Deer Success Thread

High mountain mule deer are better than hay meadow / corn field mule deer. I still like both but will take a whitetail doe over mule deer.

    Backcountry Questions

I have never packed a bull more than 3 miles and have been hunting them for 30 years. Packing an elk 1 mile in steep country is an extreme challenge for most. If you are really in shape, you can pack them multiple miles but it can be brutal, even when you at your peak. The amount of time you...

    Antelope numbers and tags issued?

Did you hunt a different time of year the last time? Was it a drought year like this year? I know in many of the areas I hunt, the animals were in vastly different places than years before. Antelope are one of the species the biologists typically have a very good count on. It's pretty rare...
