    Bob cat

Saw another big cat 2 nights ago. This is the second lion sighting at my place in the last 2 weeks. Going to put a few game cameras up tomorrow, hope I can get some pictures.

    Hunting Doe

In my first post I said I have shot a lot of doe deer. Where I live here in SW Colorado it is primarily agriculture, hay, orchards and pasture, all irrigated. We have literally 100's of mule deer within a mile of my place. Every night there are 40 to 50 in my yard. I apply for a private land...

    Hunting Doe

Not all areas are the same and a lot depends on the weather. Here in the SW part of Colorado it usually starts around Thanksgiving. Not all the does get bred and some don't come into season and a second rut can start a couple of weeks later.

    Hunting Doe

A lot depends on your situation. I love to eat venison, antelope and elk, prefer it to most domestic meat. If I can't draw a tag for a male animal and my freezer is empty, I'll put in for a female tag in areas where there are surplus animals. I never take a female with a fawn either. I have shot...

    Big time Poacher Bust

Penalties were not stiff enough. They should be banned from ever owning a firearm and all of them confiscated from them. Never allowed to hunt or fish again in every state and a minimum of 10 years prison time...no parole.

    AK Fishing

If you end up going to the Kenai area, I can recommend a great VRBO spot we spent a month at in 2019.

    Wolves in Colorado

I heard rumors of a new petition being started to overturn the wolf introduction a few months ago. But nothing now.

    Sandhills

My Grandfather was born and raised in the Bitterroot Valley in Montana. He told me when he was a kid they used to shoot Trumpeter Swans and eat them . He said they were better than geese.

    Sandhills

Was out this morning with my Lab checking my pond and I heard them. Pretty hard not to recognize their call. Yep Sandhills, about 15 of them flying east. Really unusual as we don't see too many over here. I probably havn't seen fifteen in the last 20 years. I'm going to start looking now and see...

    Colorado Desert Ram Poached

I have a theory about poaching incidents like this one. Because no attempt was make to take any part of the animal, just a lot of publicity, some one (or some group) that has antihunting feelings di it. Why, well lots of negative publicity related to hunters, guns and hunting in general. The...

    Ruts Over

Here in SW Colorado the rut is finished. This morning I saw maybe 50 does all laying down digesting last nights feed......and not one buck around. 2 days ago there were 15 or 20 bucks chasing all the does, but today none. Looks like next years progeny has been planted.

How did everyone's hunt go this year is it what you expected and are you going to change your plans for next year?

Due to major back surgery in September, I didn't hunt this year. Turned in my elk tag here in Colorado and got my points back. Now I am facing a knee replacement in January, but expect to be ready for next fall. Wyoming and Colorado for elk , deer & antelope are on the agenda.
