    License and Tag fee increase

FYI, if you are planning an Alaska hunt, there is a bill in the legislature to increase license and tags fees. The Bill, HB 137 has traction. The proposed increases probably aren't "deal breakers" but you may need to budget for them if they pass. Here's a few of the proposed increases. Updated...

    N.W. Alaska Caribou hunting

For those of you interested in hunting in the north west (Kotzebue) area of Alaska; the regulations have changed that limit non-resident opportunity. The board of game adopted changes the lower the bag limit to one bull caribou with a season of August 1---September 30. The regulations will go...

    A few more in Colorado

A few more shots from Colorado last month! This young buck must have torn his ear in a fight! They have some fabulous sunsets there.

    Colorado trip

I made a quick trip to Colorado and did some looking around in the evenings. I couldn't find many critters with big antlers but I had a great time and did manage to shoot some chukars and pheasant. They sure have some beautiful sunsets there! Photo 3 was the biggest buck that I saw on this trip.

    Guided hunts

I plan on going on a guided elk hunt in Wyoming in 2016, if everything falls together for me. I will have 8 pp's. I'm looking at guided since I've never hunted elk, it's tough and expensive to do much scouting from Alaska and I doubt that I'm as smart as an average bull elk! I've sent several...

    Ammo and powder

I'm beginning to see a little better supply of gun powder and even a few .22lr cartridges on the shelves, How is it where you are. I still can't find some of the powders I use the most; H4831sc but I'm getting by pretty well.

    Drawing permit application time

The drawing permit application period is open now. It closes on December 15th. There are a few changes, as always, so look them over carefully. The hunt supplement can be found on the Alaska department of Fish and Game's website. Best of luck to all who apply!

    Some summer bears

Since I wasn't able to hunt this fall, I figured I'd post a few more bear photos and one of some gulls fighting over a dolly varden. One gull ended up with the fish and swallowed it whole! I know it's not a great hunting photo but I thought it was cool to capture it on camera.

    October bull

I haven't been getting out much but did manage to find this bull today. He was pretty unconcerned that I was there.

    September bull

I ran into this pair while I was out hiking with my lab this morning. The bull is sure interested in the cow but she's being coy. Neither of them were happy to see me or my dog. Just as my luck runs, moose are easier to find near home than where my son has a tag. So far on the last 2 flights...

    August bull

I was happy to see this young bull on my hike last night. He'll be a good bull in a couple years!

    A few more bears

These two bears were the top boars at the "falls". Both are huge with the one estimated at 1400+, so the dark bear is close to that. These bears are habituated to people being there as long as the people follow the rules. They aren't tame bears by any stretch of the imagination, just ask Tim...

    Massive bear

Just back from bear viewing...this guy is estimated to be nearly 1400 pounds. You might see a bigger bear someday, but you don't need too!

    July Bull

Went out today to practice with the camera....next week I have a trip planned for photographing some bears, I'll post if I get any good ones.

    Fishing trip

Just back from fishing. The halibut were plentiful but small; nothing more than 40 pounds. Caught 2 big octopus too! A great time with my son!

    I like moose

Just because I like moose, here's a few I took today. This is the same cow/calf as last time. She's a very tolerant cow. When you all come up here, remember your bug repellent...they are eating this young bull alive!

    Anchorage Moose

Here are a few more moose. The bull was being eaten alive by mosquitoes just above his hocks, especially evident in the last photo. It's an ugly time of year for moose. Today near Anchorage.

    Good start Bull

    Another score guess

Another one to guess at. You can't go wrong, I wasn't able to shoot him either, so I don't know the score. Private land in Unit 62 Colorado. The last photo is the same buck the next year.

    Woodleigh bullets

I tested some 180 grain Woodleigh bullets in my 338-06 today, they shot very well. Anybody have experience with them on critters? I also shot my Savage model 16 in 7mm-08. I bought it to replace my ultra-picky Kimber in the same caliber. The Savage shot as I had hoped... .65" 3 shots at 100...
