Hornady oal gauge with a dummy cartridge has worked the best for me. I always measure from the o-jive. I've tried other techniques and the were never constant for me.

You will get a lot less neck fatigue with the angled head. If your not backpacking with the scope a lot I'd get 80mm+ they have a lot better low lite performance.

Seekoutside makes a great pack. Their packs fit me better then any other pack made. The only downside I've found with them is that the material that they are made from can be a little loud.
