2021 WY Bill for Tag Increases

I'll tell you exactly why, because the State Legislature has to approve the fee increases. So, they only take the issue up every few years, at most. Meaning the fee's are locked in place until they decide to increase them, which is usually only when it just about to the point the Department is...

2021 WY Bill for Tag Increases

I somewhat agree...but here's another angle to think about. What do you tell a 12 year old kid, born in Wyoming and living his whole life here, that their Resident friends and family didn't do all they could to help them realize their dream of hunting a sheep, moose, goat, or bison in their own...

2021 WY Bill for Tag Increases

Game and Fish is self funded, no money from the legislature/general fund or oil and gas leases. 61% from license revenue, 24% from PR/DJ, 7% grants, 3% interest, and 4% other.

2021 WY Bill for Tag Increases

I agree with that...they'll think about the additional $300 for a pronghorn tag, for oh, about 30 minutes then cut the check, or more than likely, slap it on the plastic.

2021 WY Bill for Tag Increases

Hunting as a NR is not where hunter recruitment happens...it happens where hunting is close to home, affordable, something a person can do each year, etc. Meaning the state you are a resident in. I cant think of a worse way to recruit hunters than elk hunting. Hunters are recruited by hunting...

    Its in the bill...2022.

2021 WY Bill for Tag Increases

Class action law suit...on what grounds? Where in the bill does it "get rid of points"? You should probably study up on some case law in regard to R/NR license allocation. Its been tried in court dozens of times and the courts have always concluded the authority to regulate game falls under...

    Cow Moose Wyoming Question

Like was mentioned, the trick if finding a lone cow. Could take 15 minutes, 3 days, 5 days. Depends on how hard a person hunts. Best way to hunt cows is to cover country. Probably no area that much better than the next, IMO. Good luck!

So...What are your plans for 2021?

I applied for goat in Wyoming too...I'd rather someone like you get the tag. BTDT in Montana in 1998, really just being greedy if I get another. Good luck!

When Did You Kill Your First Elk?

Honestly, you weren't missing much, not nearly the opportunity back then that there is today. What I do miss is the simplicity of elk hunting back then...tag, rifle, pack, knife...and only hunting and applying in your State of residency. Why I still like to hunt cow elk every year, pretty much...

So...What are your plans for 2021?

Only for sure trips at this point, AK salt water fishing trip, Montana for deer (can get an OTC non resident A-tag), Illinois deer on a friends place, Wyoming pronghorn buck (1 or 2 depending), 3 Wyoming elk tags, Wyoming buck deer (1 or 2 depending), black bear. Applying for most everything...

Sheep Hunting With Bow or Rifle?

Unless its an archery only tag...the bow stays home. I've had 3 sheep tags in my life, never even considered taking a bow.

    Wyoming Elk

DIY, no...pay to hunt the Q, yes. NR's are going to struggle in that unit in November for all kinds of reasons. If I had max points, hard no...and that's about what it takes to draw.

    Wyoming Elk

Have realistic expectations. Unit 7 isn't what it once was when you first started getting points.

    Who taught you to hunt?

My Grandfathers and Dad got me started, none were nearly as serious about it than I am. They hunted a lot but times were just different and how they hunted was a reflection of the time. They didn't backpack hunt, they didn't glass a bunch, they didn't own the best gear, but they were good...

30-06 and 180 gr bullet load suggestions

You MIGHT get to 2800 with a 180...but I'd be careful trying to get there with maybe RL-22, 17, or 19. IMO/E 2700ish is a good place to be, safely, with the 180's. Performance on game was always good for game too in that 2700 fps range when I shot the 180's out of my 30/06. As JimP pointed out...

When Did You Kill Your First Elk?

November of 1980...I was 12. This one, just over 40 years later, my 77th elk, been a lot of miles in between.

Sources of Revenue for Wyoming Game and Fish

Well, then I apologize for thinking you weren't somebody that just took advantage of, and supported the system when it was to your benefit, but want to change it since you got yours. Same as everyone else I guess. Too bad about your kids and grandkids...should have thought about that a long...

Sources of Revenue for Wyoming Game and Fish

I don't think it was harsh at all, I totally gave BKC a huge thumbs up for admitting that he was in fact part of the problem. Also pointing out that once again, there is no thought being given to those that have participated in the system from the get-go. There often times isnt much thought put...
