    Bino packs

I have two of the Vortex Bino packs, I really like them, they are comfortable, stay where they are supposed to, and the price is good value.

    To Scout.....Or Not To Scout

I think I'd still want to make sure they're around, I've heard a lot of experienced elk hunters say elk are where the elk are, if they're not there any more it'd be a shame to waste precious time. As you said you only have 4.5 days to actually hunt. I would tempted to use some of those 2.5 days...

    Scouting 2019

I don't know what to say, incredible photos of outstanding bucks. I have never seen deer like those. From what people tell me there was a time around here when big bucks were not uncommon. You could go out and see 2 dozen mature bucks in one day. I've never seen that many in a decade of really...

    Camp set ups?

The big rock actually reflects back a lot of heat from the fire and made a great prop to hold up the back of the lumber tarp. Even when it's just cold that rock really keeps our backs warm, great for drying stuff against. We are pretty picky with where we place our camps, we usually use them...

    Camp set ups?

For the past eight years or so all of my camps while hunting have been backpack hunts into the backcountry or road closures. So kind of minimalist in nature. Here's a couple of pictures of the same camp on a road closure, one in good weather the other two in not so good weather. We haul a cart...

    Scouting 2019

I hiked into one of my favourite ares yesterday to cut firewood for a camp my hunting partner and I set up 7 or 8 years back while spring bear hunting. I spent an hour and a half or so getting enough firewood for 5-6nights and rebuilt/cleared out the firepit, got my tent site cleared of branches...

    Scouting 2019

I would love a chance at some of those bucks you have photos of. Pretty much any of the four points or better would do the trick for me.

    Scouting 2019

Here's a few pictures of two different areas I hiked/scouted the past couple of weeks. Some sign but no deer or elk spotted, not overly concerned since it was completely the wrong time of day to see animals. I was hiking with my daughter and her boyfriend for one of the trips so getting up there...

Hello from British Columbia Canada. It's a great site and one of the best magazines to be found on the newsstands.

    Scouting 2019

I'd shoot any of the four points given the chance. I got out again last week and continued my hike into the alpine lake I had been trying to reach earlier in June. It was sort of a scouting trip, one of my old school friends had all his kids and their friends staying at their lake house for a...

Altitude Sickness- who has gotten it?

Jim that's some rugged country, I've personally never hunted it but I hear about it from others who have. There are a number of peaks in there that do break 10,000ft(3000m+) but like you said and I have noted there isn't much up that high. If there is nothing to eat that pretty much does it...

Altitude Sickness- who has gotten it?

I've never had it, I don't think so anyway. Not many of our mountains go over 3000m(10,000ft) and above 2000m(6600ft) it's generally nothing but rock. I guess altitude plus a few degrees north means our alpine starts lower. There's goats up above 2000m but not much else, unless it's a pass that...

    .264 Win Mag on Elk

Every post you see about the 6.5 Creedmor declare it plenty for elk, if shot placement is right, if the angle is good, I don't see why a 264wm(6.5mm) wouldn't do the trick. Maybe not the ideal caliber but if you're good with the rifle it'll do the job.

    space between camps

So far it's never been a problem on a backcountry backpack hunt. One of the two times I've camped by my truck the area was a zoo. There was a camp every pullout along the river, it was pretty much the last time I ever camped anywhere near a road. Except during the summer with my family, hunting...

    2019 fall bear

Congratulations on a successful hunt, rifle or bow? I didn't fill a bear tag this spring so I still have mine for the fall season, I like to have one in case a bear causes issues while I'm on one of my backpacking trips for mule deer. Easier to have the tag and not have to use it then to have to...

    Thanks To Eastmans and Vortex

The binoculars came while I was on holidays so I just picked them up a week ago Friday. I've only fooled around in the backyard and on one of our construction sites. Used the 100yd tape to measure out 100/200/300/400 on one of our lunch breaks. Put out a 20"x20" piece of plywood and ranged it at...

    Just a bull snake

And so began the heart attack. Not a snake person, lets not call it a phobia I like the term common sense.
