The dumb/stupid things we do chasing game...

Brother and I were talking in the duck blind this weekend...reminiscing the stupid things we have done while hunting through the years. Better group from my 7mm Rem Mag?

Didn't really need a new gun, but back in the day I won two fantasy football leagues and had $1k burning a hole in my pocket. Being a lefty meant my choices were limited. Found a beautiful left-handed Winchester model 70, 7mm Rem Mag on Gunbroker and sealed the deal for right around $600...

50th birthday present from my wonderful wife...

50th was end of September, but we were out of town. Had a celebration last night for my 50th, and our wedding in May (2nd marriage for both). My old hunting buddies came in from 6 and 3 hours away, as well as friends and family. Wonderful time. After all the adult beverages, smoked pig...

    Time for new hunting pants

Need new pants for deer and turkey hunting. My "go-to" are old camo / cotton 6 pocket BDU type pants. Years ago my Mom sewed shoelaces in the bottoms, so I can cinch them down over my boots. They are roomy, comfy, and have been patched more than a few times. Here is what I deer/turkey hunt...

    DIY mule deer archery hunt

Welcome Bluesky: I'm from Nebraska and have hunted the Sandhills hard since 2010 (rifle only no bow hunting). Love the Sandhills, my uncle had a ranch and we spent many summers there. I hunt only public land and have spent many hours/days at McKelvie and the Valentine Refuge. Disease hit that...

    good camera option?

I'm a part time photographer (seniors, weddings, sports, outdoors). If you want really good pictures, get a DSLR from Nikon or Canon. Full frame preferably. Then get ready to spend a lot of $$$ on lenses. Here is some of my work. Then get ready to spend $$$ on software (Adobe Lightroom...

    1st Mule Deer - Nebraska

I've only been chasing Mule deer the past three years. Concentrate on Nebraska's Sandhill region...absolutely love the area. And while my Uncle has a ranch in the Sandhills, I would never dream of asking permission...their tradition is a "family deer camp" for rifle season. So I hunt public...

Scout day before, or just walk in opening morning...

Headed to Sandhills of Nebraska tomorrow in advance of Saturday's rifle opener. It's a 6 hour drive, and I've hunted there before. I know where I want to go (from experience hunting there, and google-earth scouting a few new spots). Question is this: Do I walk in and scout around Friday...

    Size 8 hats??

Cabela's used to make XXXL fitted hunting hats...thankfully I picked up a few before they discontinued. I wear a size 8 hat (buddy says, "you don't have a forehead...you have a SIX-head!") Filson makes a nice hat, as does Stormy Kromer. Any other options out there?

What magazines (if any) do you subscribe to?

I haven't subscribed to hunting magazines in over 10 years, find it easier to google search for the information I need. I've subscribed to Wildfowl, Field and Stream, Outdoor Life in the past. Really liked a magazine put out by Columbia sportswear company in the 1980's and early 90's (I...

7mm MAG vs. 30-06 with 150 gr Ballistic Tips

I'm a lefty, so rifle options were limited. Purchased Browning A-Bolt 15 years ago in 30-06 (black with stainless), then had opportunity to pick up a Winchester Model 70 in 7mm Rem MAG (wood and stainless, beautiful gun). Won two fantasy football leagues that funded this purchase and Leupold...
