I must confess my sins – a few chocolate eggs didn't survive this weekend, read that as diet challenge failed for a day or two. My sons birthday combined with the Easter holiday proved to much. So, I am going to double the workouts. Not only am I getting stronger and feeling better, but I am to the point where I need to up the set count to feel the burn. I also managed to get my 55-year-old father to start the challenge with me this weekend as well. He quickly learned how out of shape he really was and what potential whooping the mountains had in store for him this fall. Hold strong and get ready to run, as I think that phase is starting in a week or two.

How did you guys fair over the holiday?
Well you were not alone. I also had my sons birthday this weekend along with Easter. A cookie dough blizzard for a birthday snack and a strawberry shortcake on Easter may have been more temptation than I could resist. So whats done is done and time to get back hard at it.

I had a couple lemon drops, not much candy but it was tough. Holidays are killer.

I am ready for the running to start, it's one workout that I really like to see just how far I can push myself.

Good day today!! Today is the first day my "after surgery" ankle has not bothered me after a workout. I'm holding my breath, maybe I've turned the corner, I'll know more in the AM.

Stepped on the scale this morning and it read 299 (at home scale that's close to Rinda's). Four pounds gone, four pounds less to haul in the backcountry.

Good job Dan!

I haven't lost much, but I can tell my body is working harder. I go to bed hungry every night working on portion control. Not starving myself, still getting plenty of food, just not over eating at dinner.

Rinda said to eat like a King at breakfast, prince for lunch, and a pauper for dinner. My wife and I are working pretty hard at that now. It's working.

I've found this to be the hardest part for me as well but am getting way better at it. I feel stronger than I did two weeks ago and I am looking forward to the running as well. Hopefully peel off more weight at a faster pace. After all, we have spring bear season coming up!

Okay I am going to jump on ship now. I am 30 weighing in at 210lbs. and 5'9". Yes short and fat. I have an 9 month old daughter that gives me all the excuses to eat like crap and not work out. I am wanting to be at 175lbs by Montana's bow opener. I was up to 228lbs one year and went down all the way to 179lbs. Now have put that all back on. It is a life style change to keep the weight off. I need motivation and it looks like I have found it from you guys. I would love to do the 5k with you guys. Just let me know when and where. Thanks for the motivation. Will keep you guys posted on the weight loss.

Fantastic and welcome to the challenge! ! Yes, my kids give me great excuses to not eat healthy as well – it's tough. Set realistic goals. If you cut 500 calories from your diet, that equates to roughly one pound per week. So calculate the amount of weeks between now and then and that's a pretty realistic weight loss goal.

Well we have another weigh in this Friday and I am less than thrilled with my workouts this past week. I did get a couple in but not as many as I would have liked. The running/training phase is coming up later this week, stay tuned.

Ok thought it is time to make a quick post. I am not going to lie, I have not been keeping very disciplined. Ran the 3 mile Ice Breaker yesterday with the family in Great Falls, and it hurt. My 8 year old boy beat me so he was pretty proud of himself, and I was proud of him too. It could have been worse, but I ended up 15th out of 62 for my age group, and have got to get back into the groove. Keep on grinding everyone!

The wife and I started a clean eating challenge today. I took the dog out for a hike and shed hunting. The hike went well and I felt great afterwards. Legs were sore and the dogs are still stepping easy today so I know we all got a good work out. My diet plan is 1700 cal per day. For me I like to get a bit less but that's going to be my top count for each day.

Trent,

You should try to calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and drop 500 calories off of that. If you deviate much from that, you trick your body into thinking it's starving and you'll gain weight. Scott also has a calculation that gets pretty close to the same number as well. Might ask him what that formula is.

Thanks! I did that and the 1880 was the outcome.

I've made the mistake many times by not eating. It seems easier for me to just not eat. It's very hard for me to eat every few hrs as I should with the trade I'm in. This last time I did it rite and went with the Paleo diet and it worked well for me. I lost 17lbs in two months then went on Vaca and I've put 12 back on. I'm ready to get down 20 more from this weight.

I'm pretty much a meat and potatoes kind of guy. The clean eating will be dificult after a week or so due to I don't care for many vegetables.

There is an App that is a great tool for all those Calculations.

Fitter Fitness Calculator

It's a free app

Well it is official, this thing has become contagious in our house. My wife is working out more than me and she is now calculating all of her calories with an app on her phone.

Finally started hitting it hard this week and man do I feel better... For those of you "waiting" to get started just force yourself through the first couple work outs. You will feel better I promise! Once I do this I actually start to look forward to them....

Good luck everyone.
