Well I am taking the 13 year old daughter back into the Cascades deer hunting again this morning. This will be our 4th attemt trying to find a buck. So far we've seen 4 deer, I'm amaized the she still wants to go after all the miles we've put in and lack of animals. Trying a new area today, maybe we'll turn up a buck for her. Deer hunting up there is tough though, I've only killed 2 bucks up there in the last 10 years. I tell her it's not easy, she says why do we hunt here? Answer, because it the only place we can, it's here or we don't hunt.
I was up on my side of the mtn that day with my general season tag. As I was fighting my way through the brush for 80% of the time, I was reminded why I hate hunting over here. I think a guy has to put a few years in at in a single area to learn where the good hunting areas are and more important where not to go to stay out of the brush piles. I will be hitting it this weekend again. Trying to find big timber up high. That's my plan. If that doesn't work, I will see if I can find a way to get on the public land on the back of the private land down lower. I think a lot of the deer around here end up lower near private land to get away from the cats. I see a couple nice bucks every few days near my house, but I am committed to hunting hard in the woods instead of sitting in a chair on my porch.

Hope you had some luck!!

Put it this way, I'm glad Cascade elk is going on this weekend so we can take a break! All my old hot spots down lower are just too overgrown these days. The high country we've been hunting is just a little much for the daughter, not many deer up there. I believe its one of those deals where if you see one it will be a big one, but not what she needs, she needs to see deer. I am seriously thinking about heading to the SW part of the state on the 19th, more deer there and a lot easier to hunt.

I hope you find one of those big guys up high, they are some of the hardest animals to get IMO.

Mine is about to look like that too:) I have been adding 15% beef fat and 15% beef to my deer and antelope and it works pretty good. Also made some burgers with that mixture that I add jalapenos, onion, garlic and seasonings and mix it all together before I grind it the 2nd time. They taste great and I make them into patties and vacuum seal them 4 in a pack so they are all ready for the BBQ! Im gonna make some pork antelope breakfast sausage this year too. What stuffer are you using hardstalk? I just got an 11lb from cabelas for this year.

Deer chasing has begun here. I really despise deer season here. Guys chasing them all over the fields with pickups and shooting like mad men. Its horrible and I wont even hunt here because of it. Just went to town and passed a guy with a deer in back of his truck with both back legs blown off and dirt all over what was left of his legs from trying to get away with what he had left. Almost made me sick just seeing it.

I should find some friends with better equipment. LOL Ill find out how mine works tomorrow. Been some bad reviews on the cabelas stuffers anout the gears wearing out but they are supposed to have better gears now and hold up alot better. I been stuffing with my grinder which doesnt work very well IMO.

Antelope brats, antelope breakfast sausage, antelope jerky, antelope burgers, antelope steaks, seems like someone killed an antelope around here or something!! LOL! All ground and seasoned, stuffing sausage and start smoking it tomorrow:)
