So does anyone know the ins? Most federal websites are shutdown and the BLM plan has noting in it about hunting.

So...can we still hunt on National Forest and BLM lands?

Our National Wildlife Refugees are now officially closed, just got the email. Still waiting to find out about our National Forest and National Rec land.

Just got an email that was sent out to Conoco Phillips employees concerning activities on Federal lands. The email said that hunting and fishing were not allowed as long as the shut down was in effect. I have an elk tag in Wyoming and hope to be able to use it, but the unit is BLM and it does not look promising.

Did some more checking and found the following information. You will be able to hunt and fish on Federal lands that are not developed recreational sites. BLM lands will be open. You can check on other areas by going to www.doi.gov/shutdown. This site gives the activities that are allowed during a shut down.

Sounds like a poachers dream with the rangers sitting at home. Hope they figure that crap out in DC.

I just can't see not hunting OUR public lands, just because a bunch of idiots in D.C. don't know how to do their jobs. It's probably in my best interest that I'm done hunting out West for the year.

Would be pretty messed up if you missed a hunt over that
During the "shut-down" of the Government in the mid-90's, My wife drew a Wyoming moose tag for area#15 (between Grand Teton & Yellowstone national parks. They closed the only road to the area (moran junction) and without access, my wife's tag went unfilled and we both lost our vacation time for the hunt. To say I was pissed, would be an understatement. I still hate Newt Gingerich!

I would of been well beyond pissed too! They shouldnt be able to close roads. If they want to shut down they need to start at the top with the president, congress, senate, and house. If they were doing the job they were elected to do we wouldnt have this problem. besides they all have plenty of money and most if not all of them could live just fine if they never got another pay check.

This shutdown is such a joke. One example: They have went out and barricaded tons of boat ramps that sit unmanned year round, so normally they don't cost anything to operate but since the gov is "shut down" we have to spend millions (thinking nationwide here) to go close down these boat ramps.

We need some serious change in this country...

Well, according to the BLM website all BLM lands are CLOSED to the public and outfitters with permits cannot operate! Looks like I'm screwed for Elk hunting next week (I hunt BLM) Unless those worthless S.O.B.'s in Washington do something very soon. I have my Grandson coming out for his first Elk hunt this year....Obama & Biden and the Democrats and the Republicans are all to blame.
