Kodiak hunt

I had a really fun hunt on Kodiak last week. Saw plenty of deer and bears. Hunted hard in some high country but in the end, I took a nice buck near the beach. The buck had a hot doe and a young forked horn in a group of 6 deer. As soon as I shot the larger buck, the forked horn chased the hot doe and looks almost happy, doing a full lip curl!
I've shot larger bucks there, but this is a pretty good Sitka Blacktail.

They are beautiful! That's my favorite animal to hunt in Alaska!

I splurged and stayed in a friends cabin. It was nice on those stormy days!

Thanks. I was lucky to get that buck near the beach. Gutted and in the skiff pretty quickly! No close calls with the bears. The closest was a sow with 3 cubs that I saw about 75-100 yards away. She didn't like us and ran the other way. The bear in the photo was on the opposite side of a stream from me as I was hunting ducks and he didn't seem too concerned about us shooting. We judged him to be a 9' + boar.

I've heard those big bears sometimes come to the sound of a rifle and things can get pretty dicey.
