Eye guards or brow tines

What do you call them?

Deer I call brow tines and elk eye guards

Deer brow tines due to where they are located

Elk the antlers extend out to guard the eyes during fighting.

I?ve heard the opposite, the same and backwards. What do you call them?

I also say scrape....not paw places....

I also say buck rub.....not horn tree....

I call a vacuum a sweeper too.... Wife always jabs at me for that one. lol

Brow tines for all to me. I think it is just another one of those things that it depends on where you're from. No one I know of calls them eye guards. Does anyone know what the deer's "fish" is?

Everyone I have hunted with for 60 years always called them EYE GUARDS......Brow Tines were for whitetails. So now you know I've always hunted mulies.

The "inner" tenderloins. Must just be a central Pennsylvania thing. Not sure why the name, just have called them that all my life as most people around call them that.

I've always wondered why a mule deer's eye guards/brow tines are smaller for the most part than whitetails. Not always the case, just seems like the majority are just a mere inch or two while some whitetails can be as long the points coming off the main beam.

Where I hunt it's rare for the muleys to have them at all. Maybe 10 percent do. And usually short.
Where I've hunted in north texas nearly all do have them. And good ones

I use them pretty much interchangeably. It doesn't matter what kind of deer or elk. Any given time I'll switch it around.

Come to think of it, on elk for the last couple of years I just call them fronts, typically when describing overall potential scoring of the animal.

I’ve always called them eye guards on deer and brow tines on elk. Deer the eye guards don’t count as a point either, a four point with eye guards is still a four point, not a five point and damn sure not a ten point.

Yep this is the way we do it too, called "western count" .
