Elk season is here!
They weren't talking much and no chance getting close for a bow shot, but able to take some long distance photos (warning you may have to turn your laptop sideways).
Very hot and dry country, but did see some decent bulls.

Awesome share, you couldn't stalk to within 20 yards of that first bull in 2" tall sage stubble? Come on man. :)

Stalking in dry stuff is maddening!

Nice bulls! With most of my elk hunting having taken place in heavily timbered and brushy North Idaho, I am always in awe when I see photos of elk in such open country.

Put the setting sun at your back and walk straight at them... you may be surprised at how close you can get in open country. Good looking bulls- thanks for posting!

I need to share something with you folks.
I feel fortunate I've been able to hunt in Wyoming on about 8 different occasions in the last 20 years. It's wild country.
I've Had a lion try to claim my dead elk once, that raised the hair on the back of my neck...
On this hunt, I watched what I thought was a huge coyote run down an antelope on opening morning. Then a few days into the hunt
in the same area, My son and I saw a pack of wolfs (3-black and 2-gray) closing in on my bull and his cows (in desert country), I couldn't believe it. I had never seen a wolf in the field before. I spoke to a local game warden and was told that they're a major predator in the area and to shoot them on site.
They're finding them as far south as Rock Springs.
