Hello,

I'm new to this forum and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Josh, and have a beautiful wife and 10 month old daughter who I plan to bring up in the outdoors. I was born and raised in southeast Kansas and have been an outdoor enthusiast my entire life. I have hunted, fished, and trapped every type of game big and small that Kansas has to offer. Most of the big game hunting I've done has been from a ground blind or tree stand in the dense timber we have here in SE Kansas. I have just recently broadened my horizon to western big game and am excited to make this one of my passions. This past fall I was able to take my first mule deer and antelope in western KS and now I'm hooked. I look forward to sharing stories and knowledge with all of you!!!

Josh

Thanks for the welcome. I actually live near Pittsburg not too far from Coffeyville. We have a lot of turkeys were you successful on your hunt?

Welcome aboard! I rifle hunted the southeast part several years back but I can't remember if it was unit 11 or 12. Lots of good info on this site.

Welcome to the forum! I'm just NW of Wichita a bit. I have a soybean test plot in Cherryvale so not too terribly far from you either. Glad you were successful out west! Can't beat spot and stalk

How far NW? My wife is from Cheney, KS and we spend a ton of time out there. MY father in-law farms there and has some pretty good deer hunting ground.

I live in Bentley and our agronomy center is in Halstead. Definitely good hunting around Cheney. Wish I could find a place close to here to hunt, but lots of people hunt right around Wichita and I can't afford what leases are going for anymore.

Welcome aboard Arrow Slinger! I lived in SE Kansas for 10 years. West of Mound City is where we lived. I bought my son a lifetime hunting license when he was born in 2006, just before we moved back to Oklahoma. I love that country, we still hunt up there. Last year we hunted the Army Ammo Plant at Parsons, Pake killed a doe there. Outfitters have leased a ton of ground in Linn County. We lost 80% of the ground we could hunt. We still got a few places to hunt though.

The Ammo plant has a ton of big whitetails I know some guys that put in to hunt there every year and kill some big deer. Obtaining permission on private ground in SE KS is getting more and more difficult each year it seems and the landowners that do give you permission let everyone and there brother hunt so you are constantly competing with other hunters. I am fortunate that my dad farms 3,500 acres however however 90% of the land we have is tilled with no trees.

Here's the antelope and mule deer I took back in Sept. on public ground in western KS. They're not big but big to me since they were my first of both species.

Nothing wrong with those! Congrats. I'm still looking to get a muley in KS, but keep getting distracted with whiteys... even when I go out west. I'm not much of a goat hunter so I haven't tried them yet, but I will in the future
