wow, ran into a pack of wolves on my mountain bike last night.

Came around a corner on a gated road, doing about 15 mph and saw 3 wolves in the road about 50 yards ahead of me, they where facing away from me, looking back. I gave a war whoop out and saw a couple more wolves start running away, i kept rolling in to them and let out a fear of god war whoop and saw 2 more wolves take off, all running away from me. I than stopped and got the hell out of there. Definately got my adrenaline fix tonight. I took off from the house on my bike and was 5 miles away when it happended.

Tim, did you set any speed records on your retreat run? We had a pack of 13 by our deer camp two years ago, the guy who saw them actually had a wolf tag in his pocket but wiffed all his shots. I was snowmobiling out from the shack last winter and came up on one wolf that was cruising along at 40MPH, he put on the after burners when he saw me and sped up from there. At that rate you would really have to be wheeling to keep in front.

A S&W governor loaded with 410's in #8 shot would put the fear of God in them. Wouldn't cause any permanent damage (darn it!) but would probably sting at 50 yds.

the funny thing is wolf season opens up aug 30th. The bummer is the forest service, blm and state of Idaho have shut the woods down effective Saturday night at midnight. They are giving us until then, to get your hunting camps out of the woods before the closure. lots and lots of forest fires around.

5 miles from the house and now I am thinking I might have to start packing. I have never believed a man needs to pack in the woods for protection.

fires prob have those wolves all messed up, I hope you guys get some rain up there tim. weve been lucky down here as far as fires go, a lot of lightning moving over right now headed for hills without much rain in clouds, crossing my fingers.
