Ran 5.7 miles in 53 minutes with huge elevation changes. I pushed hard.....and the course pushed back! :)

Thinking of running my first ever race this Saturday. It's a half marathon. Nothing like starting small. They say it is one of the two toughest "half's" in the country. First and foremost, I just want to finish, but a time under 2.5 hours would be good. A flat course, I think I can do in 2 hours on a good day, but this course is brutal.

I put in another 5.6 miles today with pack and boots. We got a few hills here around Atlanta but nothing too big. I need elevation more than anything...us flatlanders just can't simulate that.

good mtb bike ride last night. Left the truck at 4:00pm got back a little after 8:00pm 23 miles and 4400 feet of climbing. I am sore today.

Pickle juice really works if you are starting to cramp. I could feel cramps coming and took a couple of big swigs of pickle juice and I could feel the cramps going away. A very successful endurance athlete friend of mine, turned me on to it.

Hope your trout fishing...say maybe the South Holston or Wautaga? I know there in TN not sure where in N.C. you are? Got a cabin in Mars Hill bout an hour from the above mentioned rivers. They are phenomenal. Good Luck wherever you go. Post some pics.

Pushed really close to the total distance I wanted. Wondering if I need to push it up a bit. I did some other workouts this weekend too to go along with this run.

Mission accomplished - Saturday: 13.1 miles @ 1:55.
Sunday was a serious recovery day as I was drained.
Sunday took a 5 mile bike ride to aid in leg recovery.

Been slacking on my running due to other stuff taking priority. Only 23.9 miles last week.

Getting some good cross training in though, hand dug under a sidewalk and a 15" deep trench about 30' to get some long ignored drainage issues solved.

I've recently added a few moves to my usual workout repertoire. Namely, bear crawls with kettle bells to warm up and loaded carries (farmers walks). On the latter, I shoot for a few rounds with roughly my bodyweight in each hand.

Trap bar deadlifts are a favorite of mine as well for whole body strength.

I'm primarily a weights guy, but I hike with a loaded pack regularly as well. The running deal just isn't my style.

the chores versus working balance is not going as good as it should. been averaging 55-60 miles on the mtn bike each week, and the chores are just not getting done.
