nothing against crossbows at all and I cant wait to get one. but im in total agreement that it shouldn't be allowed during an archery hunt. however, if its allowed to be used during archery season in that state then right on. regardless...... what a pig!!! reminds me to watch Darrel on walking dead to get crossbow teq down;)

What is the difference if the arrow gets slung by a vertical stick, verus a horizontal stick?
both are shooting a pointy thing with a mechanical releases.

I don't bowhunt, so I don't have a dog in the fight, just curious.

One is held at full draw in its own, allowing the shooter to aim as long as they wish with no muscles getting tired and making you let down, thus spooking the bull.

Yes, and they are both a legal means of archery hunting in Wyoming. I support ALL legal means of hunting and the hunters who choose to hunt with which ever legal means they choose. judge not lest ye be judged

Regardless whether he shot it with a vertical or horizontal bow, he still had to outwit this bull and get close enough to put an arrow through him, my hat is off to the hunter.

I would have outwitted a dozen more Bulls in my life had I been carrying a crossbow. ;) no movement no nothing. Just look through the scope and wait to squeeze

Me Too! Can you imagine being able to shoot prone hiding in the grass? I do however support all legal means like the poster above mentions. It is our choice on what to carry... Not sure I want it any other way.

That, and the fact that you don't have to draw in the presence of the animal, cutting down movement and also lessening the chance of spooking it.

We just went to a hybrid archery season -- regular bows October 1 to December 10; crossbows permitted after December 10 to January 18 (approximately). There's a lot of debate here as to whether it's going to increase hunting pressure on our whitetail herd, of which numbers are down recently. To my way of thinking, limit tags if you want less deer killed. I picked up a cheap one when Horton went out of business, haven't hunted with it much, but it's fun to play around with, lol.

I support all legal means of hunting, but no body can argue the fact that crossbow hunting is as challenging as an actual bow. do I want one? very much so, I would have loved to have taken that bull with a spear, bow, cross bow, rifle or even a blasted 50 cal!

I dont think anyone would say crossbow is as challenging as archery...Thats why the bull wont be recognized by P&Y.. From the sounds of it this guy likes to fill his freezer and doing so with a crossbow is much more likely during an archery season than with an actual bow..He just happened to stumble into a giant!! It is some serious grizzly infested country that this bull was taken in and i have to give him and his group credit no matter what they hunt with; to pack into where this bull was taken takes plenty of skill beyond shooting any type of weapon. Just a great story and an amazing bull!

he net 408 boone and crockett when scored that way...will become 4th largest typical in wyoming history pending acceptance by b&c as well. . And according to the scorer..had he had the 7th point on his right to match his left he would have net over 420...just an amazing bull all the way around..and in the national forest on a general tag! Gotta love seeing a bull like this taken by a person instead of by a group like mossback and 20+ people that had spent every day watching its every move

amen to that
