Any ideas??????? Last week I took a cow elk with a clean shot. The elk was dressed out and skinned all within three hours in 20deg weather. After a a few days of aging I started to butcher the elk as we have done with all of our elk for the past thirty years. But right away it had a smell I've never experienced in the past. Not a smell of rancid or wild game smell but one of really potent. I took some of the meat to a local meat cutter for a second opinion and he agreed that something wasn't right with it and advised not to consume it. There wasn't any signs of being previously wounded or injury. Really confused since taking care of my game after the kill is my first priority
I think I remember your post about hunting elk on the Co/NM border in units 80,81 or 82. I am looking at a possible M/L hunt in 82 with a NM outfitter..Fishtail Outfitters from Chama. Also looking in 54 for the same type of hunt.

Do you know anything about Fishtail and/or 82.

I bleed Black and Gold!!!!! Funny thing is I was a kid in Wisconsin, and moved out to AZ as an early teen. Just became a fan in the 70's and never jumped off the bandwagon.

I say I like your avatar as well. Nice deer!!!!
Hi, Haven't been here long - moved here from SD about 4 years ago. I'm retired from the military - my wife was offered a job at the hospital that we couldn't turn down. Kinda hard to meet people around here, most everyone in our neighborhood pretty much keep to themselves. I've been fortunate to find a good area to hunt antelope, but haven't had much luck in the deer/elk categories. Thanks for responding. Nice to talk to someone from Gillette.
I am also in Gillette, so I thought I would say hello. I have been reading some of your posts, especially about antelope so thanks for the good information.
Just sayin Hi. My dad shoots an old model 600 Remington in 6mm, its a tack driver. He uses it almost exclusively.

Just read you first message you sent, it didn't pop up when I first checked only the second one you sent showed. Holy crap a donkey! I work for J.F. Shea construction at an asphalt plant/rock quarry. Shea does a lot of the paving in the Redding area we have quite a bit of work this year. Being a plant guy I don't travel at all we don't make as much as the road guys but we work 12 months a year. So are you operating engineers as well? If so local 3?
Hi Humbletaxi,
I saw your post about being picky about hunting partners.
I am too, had a horrible experience a long time ago. Went pig hunting with a guy from work and long story short he shot a donkey. The donkey was the property owners pet of 32 years. How humiliating. Fortunately he had gotten permission not me. I have been much pickier since then.
Do you bow hunt?
Squirrelduster came from shooting several thousand a year back when you could buy ammo and reloading materials.
I work on CalTrans building throughout Northern California. I spend a lot of time on the road.
