So my son is 11 can I but points for him this year since he will be 12 before the seasons start next year? I want to start banking points so he can have an awesome elk hunt his senior year. I can't navigate the wyoming site very well.

Thanks for any help

"A youth applicant wanting to be awarded preference points must be at least eleven (11) years old at the time of submitting an application for a big game limited quota license in the initial drawing and must be at least twelve (12) years old when in the field hunting.

A youth applicant wanting to purchase preference points only must be at least eleven (11) years old at the time of submitting a preference point only application and must be at least twelve (12) years old by December 31 of that year."

Basically you can buy points for him during the calendar year that he will turn 12. If he doesn't turn 12 until after December 31st, you need to wait until next year.

My youngest turns 10 this coming December. I have a couple years to wait. I'm honestly surprised they don't let them buy the points earlier- why not get the free money? I'm saving antelope points so I can combine with him in a few years for his first western hunt. I'll build elk and mule deer points but I'm guessing it will a long time before he uses them since he is playing every sport available.

Sports is a major deal with youth hunters required to travel much of a distance. I know it is for my son. We are giving a shot at a Wyoming antelope Thanksgiving hunt this year. Being 1200 to 1400 miles away really limits hunting chances. He will not miss football and mom will not let him miss more than a couple days of school. I am hoping to put him on a big whitetail on my place here in Arkansas during our Muzzleloader season.

I'm in the same boat as you!
