Spring turkey.jpg

With in reason I make it a point to take my son with an chance I can.
The year started out with a spring turkey hunt, and picking up a few sheds.

Antelope Mule deer.jpg
Then I had a few friends come out to antelope hunt, which turned out well.
Got a 77", 74", and a guy that shot a 2+ that and couldn't tell the difference between him and about a 85" buck. LOL! Then we got a small 22" mule deer buck on the last day.

Got to go elk hunting with a guy that I have a lot of respect for, and just had a great trip all around.
Got a cow the first day, and a spike the second. Had about 9 hours into hunting and 14 hours into packing out meat.

Turkey fall.jpg

Got back out with my boy for some fall turkey action, which will turn out to be a week I'll never forget.
3 days later we rushed my son to the ER, 5 days later we left.
He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Type one is much different than type 2, type 2 in most case is curable. Type 1 is when your pancreas has the Beta cells killed in it and no longer produces insulin.
We have to do 6 blood draws a day, every day, and administer 4 shots of insulin a day, for the rest of my son's life. There are many things he can't eat, or has to eat in very small amounts or his sugar levels could go extremely high or low, causing him to go into a coma.
After a lot of praying and learning we are back home and learning are new normal.

After about 2 weeks of learning are new normal, I got my son back out last Sunday to fill a Whitetail tag, and just really wanted him to know that even though he has to carry his kit around with him, he can still get outside and enjoy life.

I turned him loose on a grunt tube, and a set of rattling horns and told him when he sees one that he wants me to shoot say so.
We did 3 sets in total and had 9 different deer come in and he just couldn't take it any more on the last set. He said, Dad thats a big one, I don't care if it has horns, shoot it!. Love it!

Wow, very sorry to hear of the challenges you all have to face, but it sounds like you're up to it. You will certainly be in my prayers. That's a tough and handsome son you have there. It's great to see that you have him involved in the outdoors and are having quality time with him. Nice job! The early years sure zoom by, cherish every minute of them, they're special!

Great season go deep. Sorry to hear about your sons diabetes. Looks like your keeping life normal, fun, and worth living for. Hope he continues doing well. I can't imagine how hard of a daily routine he endures daily. Good luck with everything and prayers for you, your son, and your family. New meaning to Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving!

Sounds like a good season even with the challenges! Don't worry about the diabetes thing too much. I played baseball in college with a guy that had type 1 and he was an outright stud. The only thing different was that he couldn't eat all the crap everyone else did and had to have more discipline. Definitely don't let it hold ya'll back!

Appreciate all the kind words and thoughts, and wish everyone a great Thanksgiving, and a Merry Christmas!
Part of the reason I posted this was just to reminder people that things do change, and you have to over come them and move on.
Sometimes those things that change though don't let us have those special moments with the ones we love an more, so ENJOY IT!

God bless everyone!
