The latest snotel reports show a 200 - 400% percent of normal snow pack for much of WY. If this winter continues the way it has been the outlook for the deer and antelope herds and to a lesser extent the elk, is not very rosy. Right now the snow is coming down heavy in the region G/H areas of western WY....again.

Great for skiing, bad for the critters. Too many conflicting hobbies.

Also, Phil saw his shadow. Not looking good

heading to the star valley to ride sleds. here is hoping to all the hype is true.

this is not the first real winter Wyoming or Idaho or Utah or Colorado has seen. Might as well play in it.

If you live at the same elevation that I do you will have another 12 weeks of winter even if he doesn't see his shadow.

As for the winter, it's winter. While some game herds are not doing very well others are doing quite well, it all depends on where they are located at. Here in Colorado we have had a record snowfall in areas for the month of January. Right now I have less snow in my yard than I usually have, where the big game herds winter in my area they are doing quite well and they are wintering at 7,000'.

You just never know what the winter kill is going to be until it is accessed at the end of winter.

Understand completely zpooch... It can get negative. I'm not trying to bring anyone down but rather trying to help people make informed application decisions. The reality is this may not be the best year to apply for some areas. On the other hand, it could increase point creep in the future as tag numbers could go down.

No hype needed..you should have a hell of a time...calling for upwards of 50-60 inches by Tuesday and it will continue after that...you riding the greys I assume? Going guided or just riding?...it's epic country to ride..I just never make it down there cause there is so much for me to ride around Jackson. But it's awesome riding right now anywhere...just watch Avy conditions..they are going to be serious with this storm and the layers that are being buried

really like the Bedford area. I have rode in the star valley probably half a dozen times. We are staying in alpine, but I wouldn't be surprised if we ride out of afton also. strawberry resevior or something like that.

I also have a buddy who lives in beford, he is also a hunting guide\outfitter, Ralph Greene.

I really do feel bad for all you guys that don't like winter. There is not a better time of year. you can go farther and see more in the mountains in the winter than you can in the summer. summer sucks, winter is short, ride hard. send it season is here.
