Here's my camp set up

Found five sheds while I was out there. Only picked up four of them, left one. Found a pretty awesome moose skull too! Didn't pack it out or get pictures. Didn't take pictures of all the sheds, just video.

Sunset Day 1

Spent the rest of the time packing. Shot my elk on Day 2.

Missed one Day 1 at a wallow and went back over there and shot a bull on Day 2. I walked to the top of the ridge around 9:30am and heard bugling really close. Walked down into the trees and started calling/scraping a tree. Ended up calling a 250" 5x5 in and decided I didn't want to shoot him. He stood at 50 yards and then walked off. I thought he was the one bugling but then heard something down the hill.

I proceeded down the mountain and heard a bugle super close and thought he was headed down the mountain and I started booking it down cow calling. His calls kept getting louder and I couldn't figure out why.

That's when I spotted him 100 yards away bedded down by now it was 10:30am, I spent the next hour and 20 minutes creeping down to him. He bugled a lot and I attempted to get video. I snuck up to 20 yards and he heard me. He stood up, bugled, and streached out. Then proceeded down the mountain. I moved to see if I could get a clear shot through the trees with no luck. He heard me again and was curious and headed right to me. He then saw me and kept coming in. I knew he was about to bust so I put my 30 yard pin behind his shoulder and he turned. I was still able to get lungs and heart. He ran about 75 yards and piled up.

Awesome hunt and can't wait for my cow elk hunt in Decemeber and two doe antelope in November. I might actually make it to Missouri this year too.

Seen a post on Facebook Elk addicts group with the above picture. Sounded like you had a tough time with you hunting partners???
Congratulations on the bull!

Let's just say I'm hunting on my own from here on out on these type of hunts (unless I'm not hunting I'll tag along). There was miscommunication on both parts.

Thank You everybody! Pretty awesome hunt and I'll be near the same area again next season hunting rifle. I've shot two bulls with my bow, time to go after them with something different.

So far I've filled all my tags. Two bear, a Merriam's and Rio turkey + a bull elk so far for 2017 is a good way to start the season! Iowa opens Sunday and I have a few giants in my sights on our home farms and public land.

I'm glad it worked out in the end for you. Unfortunately I've had my ups and down's with hunting partners myself.
Congratulations on a great hunt, and a great hunting season thus far!

A good hunting partner is very hard to find. My buddy and I will be headed to Wyoming in about ten days to rifle hunt. Only guy I'll go with. Been hunting together for about 16 years. Never any bs or problems not once. Congrats on a Dang fine bull
