Search on here. Large thread about it all a couple weeks ago. The bill failed to pass for now.

had a thought the other day....?
it seems like many are hating point creep and what to do about it....
total speculation/idea....but potentially they could... say those with points can still continue to build them..... and all newbies would be a separate draw, which I suppose is like the random draw.... except basically cutting off newbs from building gaining points.
although maybe that would end up with everyone being unhappy, of course isn't that what compromise is they say? lol.
I personally don't really love a totally random draw..... although with a bunch of states, those random states allow for some different options chances etc....
perhaps though say half went to points and the other half were totally random, best of both worlds? worst of both??

States don't want to give up the revenue from the points. Using Wyoming as an example- Moose and sheep points create substantially more revenue than the permits do. Moose permits only bring in a little over 100k per year but point purchases for moose create over 1.5 million dollars. It's similar for sheep- just too much money for them to walk away from. I don't like it but I think their only path forward is to go to bonus points eventually so everyone will still have their name in the hat and will have motivation to purchase points going forward.
Someone mentioned it in the last thread that they think it should just be converted to a bonus point system . Anyone with preference points would convert those to bonus points . I know that has issues also but that gets my vote . Even square them like Montana.
I still don't get why folks need extra pampering. Used to be that we got in line and waited our turn - now that's not good enough. We didn't need safe spaces either and a "youth hunt" was when dad had you tag along with him - which was usually all the time.
The truth of it all is that the number of applications will go up for those primo-select hunts and areas as everyone tries for the dream hunt. The guy who applies for 25 years still has the same odds as day 1. Doesn't seem right.
This is what happens a bit w me when hunting: a big guy comes and tries to intimidate me out of a duck/deer blind on a limited quota hunt. Look em in the eyes and say I got here first, aint moving. Then the big dude sets up too close and loudly B&Ms for the next couple of hours, scares off the ducks/deer and blames me for being there. That's the same attitude that is getting the system changed.

Most people that are entering the hunting population need to have a dream hunt in their first 5 years of hunting. If they don't get it, look out, it's ----------------------------------( fill in the blank) fault! I've been on a lot of hunts, some great, some really good, some good, very few bad. If I had to have a dream hunt, it would discount the quality of all of my other hunts. Some hunters are on their 10th dream hunt. I don't think they know what a dream is, let alone a hunt.

My dream hunt is always my next one. In my 21 hunting trips out west since 2006, I can't say that I have ever had a negative experience because of the poor behavior of other hunters. Of course some hunts were negatively impacted because they just happened to be where I chose to hunt, but on public land they had as much right to be there as I did. My only dig was on a hunter that left several years worth of garbage stashed in the woods behind the tent site (6 1/2 hour hike up a tough mountain). I was last there in 2015, and finally drew enough points to draw again this past Sept., so two of us hiked in the day before deer season. Opening morning, two guys came by our camp, swore because we were there, then walked past camp without saying anything else. They almost had to be WY residents in order to make enough hunts to leave that much trash.
I like this, maybe even a option that if you wanted out of points you could step into the random pool. If so forfitting the points you have for that species?
