Myself and 3 buddies are looking to try our luck at antelope hunting in Wyoming in the fall of 2018. Having spent a decent amount of time in the Saratoga area a couple years ago (we are nonresidents), I am relatively familiar with how to handle myself in the high prairies/mountains, but none of us have ever actually hunted the western states (all involved are experienced hunters in Missouri, having chased whitetails, turkey, ducks and small game all our lives). I was wondering if anyone would be able to give us any pointers on the license application process, gear to bring, prep work to start, regions/areas to hunt (without giving away any of yalls spots, of course) to help in our planning process. We might also be interested in blending in some small game/fishing while there. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

First thing I would do is buy a pref pt this year. Could help you in the draw next year. I would also go to the Wy. G & F web site and look at the stats for drawing, etc. The current issue of Eastmans has all the stats and info in the MRS section, call the office and see if you can get a copy, invaluable info. It's also available digitally.

Might want to introduce yourself in the new member section.

You can search for past post on gear. Some good info will come up. I'm planning my first antelope hunt this year to Wyoming. Good luck.

A couple suggestions. You may have had enough time in WY to know them already, but here are a few. If you are camping, make sure your tent will hold up to hi winds. Some areas are hard on tires, consider two spare tires and 10 ply tires with at least 1/2 of their tread left. Carry 2 sets of chains in case a rain storm turns the roads into gumbo. Practice with a field rest out to 250-350 if at all possible if rifle hunting. Big enough coolers with lots of ice, to ice the game meat if needed. A Varmint rifle/shotgun and maybe a fishing pole.

Like CC said, make sure EVERYONE in your group buys a point this year. You can just go online and purchase them outright over the summer.

I'd consider one of the green units, I wouldn't be dead set on blue.

I'd look for some chunks of public land.

good luck!

I think my next WY antelope is going to be in one of their premier units.
